Its the same concept just different materials. You have to be sure the trusses are constructed correctly. Thats the key factor...these trusses are over built, which allows using a 2x4 purlin.

The potential sag that concerns me isn't rafter sag.

A test might be to walk on the roof after it's tinned. Can you tell where the rafters are?

On my 40x60x14 pole barn-designed for a 65#/ft gsl and with bottom loaded trusses on 12’ centers required 2x6 select structural purlins on 24” centers to meet code deflection criteria.

At low snow loads I could see the use of 2x4 purlins-As a structural engineer I personally would have spec’d 2x6 but if the engineering allows 2x4 and they meet the code deflection criteria then they are good enough

After much thought and reflection Ive come up with the following conclusion. I think I would trust certified engineers and building code enforcement officials on my construction project rather than anonymous internet posters.

Especially if those engineers are covering the warranty!!! :)

It looks fantastic and will give years of enjoyment. My only suggestion was to do whatever you think you may do now before moving in!

Really!? Now why??? :cool::rolleyes:

The only thing I question is if the live load (wind, snow, ice etc.) factor used in the design was interpolated to reflect contemporary weather extremes ?
I have not searched so I don't know if the design factor charts for things like storm water runoff (rainfall) and snow/ice loads have been updated in the last couple of decades??

Yea, because no one else is capable of reading a span table....

Using E=1,200,000,000 and deflection of 1/240. A 2x4, 12" oc as a rafter can span 11'3" and still support 10# sf live weight.

The motorhome goes is on one side. Not in a hurry to do all the concrete. Going to build a 10'x30' loft storage first. Going to run a couple 3" pvc conduit lines under the floor so I have access to the other side.

50 year warranty on the barn. 5 year warranty on wind damage. The roof is rated for 110 mph winds.

They do 12' on center trusses but you have to have 2x6s in between the trusses on edge on 2' center.

I am not going up on the roof...not my cup of tea anymore !! They did walk all over the roof before and after it was completely tinned.

Day 5. The roof is on ! There is a wire mesh screen under the ridge vent to keep birds from nesting. The skylights are a nice add. Our 2 dogs keeping a eye on things ! That platform truck is super. Should finish up the front tomorrow. 20180806_110226.jpeg20180806_133927.jpeg20180806_140535.jpeg20180806_163028.jpeg20180806_180608.jpeg20180806_134400.jpeg20180806_140544.jpeg

I'm always confused when I see a thread titled "Pole Barn" and see a fully enclosed building being built.

Down here we refer to open structures as pole barns. Everything else is a barn or a building.

Off topic, but do you know who sells the metal trusses pictured?
