Morton started on Friday ! 2 man crew for the foundation. That perma column system is great. So today I finished putting the stone around the grade boards. Easier to do it with no walls up. They will put the walls and trusses up come Monday . Nice to watch a crew do the work ! 20180727_102510.jpeg20180727_132548.jpeg20180727_141702.jpeg20180727_152858.jpeg20180728_182809.jpeg20180728_182901.jpeg20180728_182931.jpeg20180728_183046.jpeg20180720_093050.jpeg20180712_162110.jpeg

Morton Perma Column Installation - YouTube

First time posting a video from YouTube that I videoed. Hopefully it comes through. How do you get the video to come through without me having to post as a link ?

After all the columns are set and backfilled they come back and re-check all the heights and adjust if necessary. They don't fill the entire hole with concrete. Only the bottom 2' where there is rebar attached to the bottom of the column.

Put the word "video" in square brackets [] in front of the link. Repeat at the end but use "/video".

Should look something like this

Day 2 and the walls are up snd trusses set. Only a 2 msn crew but those machines make all the difference. The trusses will get bolted when the roof is put down.20180730_103027.jpeg20180730_134615.jpeg20180730_180625.jpeg20180730_180907.jpeg20180730_181124.jpeg20180730_190517.jpeg20180730_134433.jpeg

Day 3 got the vented soffits in, doors trimmed out. Protective liner panels should help in keeping things hitting the siding from the inside. Ready for the roof but it has rained the last 2 days.20180731_152409.jpeg20180731_152431.jpeg20180731_152513.jpeg20180731_152827.jpeg

Very nice. Love the permacolumns, wish i had them. Took me a few months of building mine by myself to get to where you are at in 3 days.

They sure are fast!!! What are they using for your roof purlins, and how far apart are your trusses? Looks like 2x4's on edge spanning ten feet, but that doesn't make any sense to me.

Are these Morton employees or does Morton sub out different parts of the work?

I just don't have the time to build it myself. Plus with 16' ft walls and my age I don't care to be up that high anymore !! The perma columns are the way to go though...

Yes....they are on 10' centers. 2x4s are on edge. I questioned the 10' ft centers but Morton has it engineered to go this way. Its all based on snow load and no ceiling being installed. We get very little snow here. Most everything comes pre-cut so it goes together quicker. Everything is nailed with coated ring shank nails.

All are Morton employees. Only thing subbed out is the 2 big doors....Overhead door from Knoxville will install these.

I elected to add this 7/16" panel for protection to the metal siding from inside the building. Just in case I or someone else makes a bad move with something... Or if the mower slings a rock or something, it won't puncture the metal siding. So lets hope the DW makes the first scar on the siding !!

While I have full confidence in Morton and their engineers, I seriously question the use of a 2x4 on edge over a ten foot span. Their reputation of building quality buildings is well established, as is their reputation of inventing newer, faster ways to build a building. My concern is that every time that I've seen a 2x4 span 8 feet, it sags. A lot of the time it's just being stored for future use, and over time, it will sag under it's own weight.

In every building that I've seen, and everything that I've read, to span ten feet, you need to be using 2x8's on edge.
