Good morning! 76˚ heading to 90s windy.
Drew you need to drink more water during the day if you are having leg cramps at night. Farming is a battle, you fight insects, wild critters, weather, dust and dehydration - and none can be fought with a tractor. But the tractor is excellent for reshaping the land and vegetation control.
I took a walk in the community garden yesterday to see how it's operated. Looks OK it all organic with a water spigot at each bed. Lots of veggies growing and one lady even gave me a handful of tomatoes. All the equipment used in the gardens is in a large building and is used by everyone. One downside is that it is on the other side of the neighborhood 6 miles away but it would make a good bike ride or golf cart ride. (Can you go 12 miles on a charge?). Most people have a timer on their drip irrigation so they can go on vacation. I think there is a waiting list to get a 20' bed I'll have to send out an e-mail today.

Got the new locks in - coded push button or key.
While I was weed eating the gate Whipper escaped yesterday. She just ran to the front and then went to my wife who caught her and I carried her back to prison.

Don, glad to hear things are moving right along. That Lake Georgetown might be a bit big for volleyball. Boat rental sounds nice. Do be careful, they have plenty of accidents in that lake too. 6 miles one way to a garden sounds kind of far? Maybe you could ask them to contemplate another garden area on your side of town. Do you have to bring in your own soils? Breakout Whipper adjusting to dog jail. Don, I had my golden retriever trained pretty good to pull me on my roller blades around my neighborhood in Cedar Park. Just have to make sure the pavement isn't too hot.

Drew, sorry about your corn. Maybe a smaller amount? Different variety? Or just stick to 'taters... Hope your cramps subside. Heat exhaustion is serious business. One symptom is you stop sweating and can't cool down. Once you get it, it comes back easier the next time. Hydrate.

Lenny, really nice place. I bought a Netgear R7000 this spring and it works great. It has pretty good distance, but the cottage might need a booster. I've been told if your home's walls have much old lead paint, that can inhibit signal.

Ron, the rains we got have turned us green again too.

Really only have tomatoes still doing OK in the garden. The heat is taking it's toll. Killed a few tomato worms. Buggers can strip a plant in a couple of days.

We had a cold front come through last night, the low was 36* this morning. The wind was bad yesterday but it was in the upper 70's. Today is going to be in the high 60's and sunny this afternoon. We didn't get any rain out of the cold front.

Going to try and get some things done that I have been putting off. Nothing important, just things I don't want to do.

Ed ... That looks like a nice mill. I worked in a couple machine shop in the early 70's and had two brothers that we're machinists. I was always interested in doing that but never learned.

Hope everyone has a nice Sunday.
CWB.

Dehydration very familiar with this one ambulance ride with 8 hour stay and one 27 hour stay all severely dehydrated from not drinking enough water and pills I have to take. It took two times to learn and IVs in both arms. Please be careful working in the heat

picked cippolini onions and beets, which meant weeding long lines of them and picking what was ready. Kept getting hotter and hotter out.
Then helper showed up and we worked on improving security in garden so that rabbits will have harder time getting in.
By then I had sweat thru two sets of clothes and around 11:30am said I was done. Drinking a sports drink, the zero calorie blue one, really
makes me feel better. Since I go to the bathroom frequently enough, am thinking I'm not dehydrated. I drink from the garden hose a fair amount.

Helper made it possible for me to easily get the disc off the larger Massey and get the bush hog installed.
No more disc'ing for the year.

think I'm going to pick a couple of new Kindle books from Amazon under their all you can read for ten bucks a month plan, and then
see if I can take a nap.

67°F and another .38 inches rain.

Great lunch with the military old farts yesterday. One very interesting couple whose house in Leilani was burned down by the volcano. She had documented everything and put into a photo book. Nicely done. Harry also lost 11 years of garden work. He belongs to the Palm Society etc. they have a great positive attitude. Harry says at aged 76 he was maybe needing a push to begin taking it easier.

Nice looking house and property Lenny.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Thanks for all the praises! I try not to be a "proud parent" but do love this place. It's going to be harder to go back out on the road for my job in a couple of weeks.

Got all the doors cut and rehung in the cottage and a washing machine drain installed in that garage. Smoke detectors replaced.

Have to start working on the internet thing now. The xfinity rep installed a XB6 cable modem which turns out to be on a bad modem list.
The house is 69 ft long interior 2 story's and the cottage is 60 ft away and the signal wasn't very good where the tech located it on one end of the house. I moved it to the central area and seems to be better but not impressed yet. Anybody recommend a good router/modem? And a broad view of setting up full coverage?

Look into the newer mesh systems. Might need a couple in the house and another in the cottage. I have the original eeros and get coverage out to my Tractor/utility shed which allows me to monitor/control my power system.
Finally, a Whole Home WiFi System That Works | eero

I have netgear R6900 router. Not too fond of it. Things hangs periodically and i have to reboot about once a week.
Going to update firmware now.

Another big storm last night, but sun and breeze today dried things up. So mowed back yard. Trimmed some smaller trees with lopers, trimmed large lilac bush.

By time i posted, the router firmware update was done.

We bought a Netgear Nighthawk a couple years ago, biggest piece of garbage ever. Bought an Asus router instead and it's been great, well worth the extra money.

We had problems with netgear router at our church building, and switched to asus. It has been doing good. I like asus computers.

So how do you know when it's your wifi gear, and not your provider? I figure if the signal is strong, then it's your provider.

Productive day. Managed to get the remaining shop area cleaned up.
Not a lot of space, but with most Tools Mounted on castered dollies they can be maneuvered to gain appropriate space. Still need to finish sort and purge of fasteners etc, but holding off for arrival of organizers.
Tomorrow I can start in the main part of garage.

A major challenge for me is cutoffs. Just what size piece of material is worth saving???? To me if it’s a 12” 2x4 and then I pick up a piece 10.5 inches, it sure looks tempting. I just hate to waste something potentially useful. But I made the hard decision, dumped an almost full FEL bucket into my hole and promptly covered with dirt. Opinions?

In our case it was when we were first setting it up and trying to update the firmware, it didn't want to take nor setup properly. If the wifi signal goes in and out a lot, and you do not have any signal with wired either, but you do if you directly off the modem, then it's the router.

Great pic Ed.
I don’t know anything about a mill so I will be interested in what you can make with it.

My new Sony tv is sending me a i message every time I turn it on and it won’t go away, it says “now tuning” I don’t know what it means or how to resolve it. The volume and muteing are disabled. Could it be from the microcell? IMG_2063.JPG

Good evening to everyone! Got up to a high of 94 today, super dry, ultra low humidity at an unbelievable 4%....is that even possible? No rain in the forecast, only getting hotter mid week to near 100.

Ed, congrats on the mill and lathe. Oh, also congrats on having such a nice wifey! I will be waiting patiently to see the first 'sanity project' now that you know how to post pics!

Lenny, your place is beyond nice, it's beautiful! Congrats and hope you're getting settled in without much trouble.

RonJ, you also have a postcard perfect place! ...can you ship me some of the green grass and also some rain?

Drew, strange affects going on with that corn... :scratchchin:You weren't near Eric's place by any chance?...maybe alien experiment?.... you're probably too far away from Don's transmogrifier to get any effect...:hypnodisk: the one on the far right looked pretty tasty...:D

Randy, did you just crash that anniversary party? Or did Ellen know them? Sounds like fun either way!:drink:

Kyle, glad to hear that you guys have greened up down there. We're still really dry as can be...I'm starting to think I'm living in Pheonix or Tuscon....or maybe the freaking Mojave....

Tomorrow morning I go back to the ortho doc, I'm sure he's going to stick another big arz needle into the knee and pull off a bunch of fluid. It's been really swollen, but surprisingly not much pain. We'll see...

Everyone have a peaceful evening and a great start to the week! Prayers out for everyone.

Got some seat time on the tractor using the PHD. Set some of the 'cut off' 3' fencing along the property line where I had taken down the neighbor's misaligned field fence. Went pretty well, dirt was dry and hard as concrete a few inches below the silty dust. We are now dry and hard after baking in the sun!:hot::friedegg: We were able to get about halfway done. Not a real hard job, just time consuming. Wore ourselves out, will be an early night for sure:yawn::zzz:

So how do you know when it's your wifi gear, and not your provider? I figure if the signal is strong, then it's your provider.
I have 3 networks in my house. Internet is provided by my AT&T Mobley (1), connected as a modem to an upstairs router(2). My Netgear router(3) is in the basement, connected downstream from it. The Netgear has the strongest signal, and is my primary network. When it misbehaves, i can just switch to another network and still have internet service. Reboot netgear, it again functions.

Had satellite internet before ATT internet, Netgear was my only router than, and it did same thing. I have upgraded firmware multiple times.

David, I too, kept every last scrap down to about 6". Finally cleared out just about everything less than 2' now. I'm much happier getting around the shop. I was even keeping the scraps like the pieces (3/4" x 1/4" x 6') off of ripped boards....not any more, and I'm much happier about it. It was very hard to break myself of the habit of keeping all the scraps. :dance1:

Now, I'm working on putting tools right back in their place as soon as I am done with them. Another difficult habit to break! I'm probably 70/30 with putting things where they belong right away. That's ok I guess.

I still have a bit of final organization to do after building the new garage / tractor house / shop. It was coming together, but then the knee problem happened. Right now 3/4 of the building has 2 full bunks of 2x4's, a full bunk of plywood, and about a 1/2 bunk of misc 2x6's, 8's, 10's, and 12's, most 12 or 16' long. I have to climb over them just to get to the compressor to turn it on. All my wrenches and 'automotive tools' are also on the other side of the lumber. A lot of tools were supposed to go over to that side, but right now it's way too much trouble to try and organize it fighting to get over all the lumber. My welders and metal saws are buried behind the lumber, under a workbench....didn't think of them when I put the lumber in there!:confused2:

The main side is pretty accessible, and getting close to at least a chaotically organized. :cool2:

Oh, David, forgot to mention about the awesome polished tool cabinet....is that old or a newer piece? Haven't seen one like it for a long time...

I keep scrap wood. I always have a need for it. Today i fixed a broken step with a 10" piece of pressure treated.
