Wifey's bad RA pretty much stopped her in her tracks trying to vacuum. Almost bought one of the Sebo canister vacs. Needed a vac pretty quick, so got a kenmore canister, 600 series (middle of the road). She loves it. Came with a few attachments, has a powered head but is super light. Heavy part just follows around. Really good suction

I have 2 rather vivid landfill memories.
One in Portland Me, right near the coast. The Hwy went along next to it and we passed the stinky site going to and from my grandparents. I was maybe around 10 when it closed and just a few short years later it became an upscale “suburb”.
2nd was a massive landfill along the highway in NJ, seems like half mile or longer. Of course this was the route from area my my lived to I95. Would be gagging by the time we’d make the end on some days. About 20 some years ago it was closed and capped. I believe it produces methane. Now you can drive along and never realize it was there by sight or smell.

Trash disposal is a political football here on the island. Untold millions have been spent on “studies” with all concluding the 2 current sites will reach capacity. Politically insensitive to suggest throwing it in the volcano of course. Oahu seems to have a pretty good trash to power program.

Recycles are a mixed bag. Recycles like certain aluminum, glass, and plastic are redeemable, others not. Apparently some items that are recyclable elsewhere are not cost effective to move off island or process locally.

Economists, at least those of the Austrian school, would say that a persons preferences are expressed by what he is actually doing, not e.g. opinion surveys. Well, I guess I like living here enough, because we haven't left. :) We've got our own house that we fully own, we work from home, homeschool our kids and a good bit of land-- it isn't such a bad life.

Thumbing through the photos, it's obvious you have a good life, one full of love and accomplishment. Many here in the US would envy what you've worked so hard for!

That little Goldoni also works its heart out; no wonder you're looking for a bigger tractor.

For years GTA trucked their trash to MICHIGAN. I think they stopped when we started making them pay more.

Yes, Toronto did and so did a lot of other Canadian cities. I'm not making excuses for them. I was one of the truck drivers that did it. You gotta make a living somewhere.

It's hard not to admire someone who can get so much work done with only a 2-wheel tractor. Kudos, Andrew, and good luck in your search.

I'm looking though to buy a Japanese tractor with FEL right now actually, because hand manipulation of hay gets old really quick, and lots of gravel would be nice to deal with paths on our pure clay soil.

Great work, freedom...looks you've been hard at work. Good luck with your search for another tractor with loader.

and what's cool is it looks like a pto shaft going back to the dump wagon.
Low center of gravity for sure

Our local Mt Trashmore has made to around 300 high and 1/2 mile across, it痴 taller than anything else in the county.

Not much you can do with trash in an urban area, but being a South Mills guy, you probably are familiar with Mount Trashmore in Virginia Beach...a landfill hill that was covered with dirt and turned into a park back in 1974. I remember when they added a skateboard park. It has one of Virginia Beach's biggest fireworks show every Independence Day. Hiking trails, a big bass lake, and playgrounds for the kids. When Virginia Beach gets a rare snow deep enough to sled, the place is packed since it is the tallest land in the city.
