I am seeing that now. If this is actually a standard SSQA at that price, weight and size they should be selling like hot cakes. I want a small grapple for working in the woods gathering firewood logs while maximizing my lift.

so I will give them a call in the morning to confirm the opening and then likely order it. I think EA is getting away with awful high pricing, particularly since I am beyond EAs 1000 mile free shipment range which puts EA ~double the price of these guys.

EA model I was looking at is ETA-SLRG-54. $1690 plus shipping. This one is $899 including shipping. Plus 6 inches more narrow.

That looks a lot like my grapple which cost me $500 twelve years ago and is still giving me great service. I do like the EA grapples but there is no doubt they are expensive. Kind of like paying the Lexus premium over a Toyota that will do the job just as well minus some style points. EA would be wise to offer a simple economy model to deter the competition but I suspect they are too concerned about cannibalizing from sales of their higher profit models. EA is successful simply because WRLong failed to do the same thing ten years ago (and WR Long refused to sell direct to consumers).

They have not answered my question about the opening distance. I don稚 know why this is such a issue for manufacturers. WR Long has it right on their OBG2 - 48 model but price is quite high.

How much is the WR Long OBG-2 48"? It's a bit lighter as well.

Hey, I know there is another 'grapple thread' but unsure that you-all are connected/subscribed and since I have been communicating with both I thought I'd include you/this one, just in case...

It does not take too many hours of operation and you get proficient enough to pick your nose, scratch your balls, floss your teeth and wipe your *** with this EA 66" wicked-root-grapple-bucket (NOT in that order ;+)...

YOU asked for more action pics so here is... Today I made a crib for/stacked some sizable pine logs but forgot to take pics... Soon...

BTW, those are NOT the dreaded palmettos... That is a palm grove with ~300 of my stock-in-trade mixed palm trees I JUST pruned (using a small chain saw) and have SIX X 6' piles of palm fronds with nasty barbs-spines/sharp-cutting leaves/wasp nests/red-fire ants... The EA grapple-bucket will be moving/burning them soon (no more pitch-forks ;+) along with ~125 other mixed brush piles from hurricane IRMA...

This 66" grapple also handles small brush well...

If you do not want me to post here and there please LMK...

These guys are not returning my call on the opening dimension. I did google and found a review indicating only a 24 to 30 inch opening on the grapple. So I am crossing these guys off my list of possible narrow light grapples.

I am going to look into that one, it was a 44 opening which is great. A dealer nearby as well. EA has it at $1835 plus I am outside their 1000 mile shipping range so that puts it in the +$2000 ballpark

OK... Here are a few pics from today... Dropped the Box-Blade, installed the 3-point-receiver with the pintle-hitch and hooked-up to the Vermeer BC 900 for a day of chipping... I burn some brush and chip some for botanical-bedding/potting-soil/ground-cover...

Also, I isolate/save all red cedar and chip it separately... It provides excellent insect-control and is an enjoyable fragrance around the farmhouse... I meant to take pics of this operation but basically I pull the chipper to the 'cedar pile' and chip into an enclosed trailer to be spread strategically...

The combination of tractor/hydraulic-do-dads/3-point accoutrements/grapple-bucket/chipper make this rig an awesome apparatus... We get it done with a little fun/finesse...

Got to say I love my EA Wicked Grapple. I can tear roofs off sheds, move concrete, pick up a pipe....LOOK at that pipe 24" diameter X 80" long X 1/2" wall. I figure pipe weighs a minimum of 935 pounds.

The dealer recommended this Blue Diamond 72" dual lid grapple for my MX5800. I control it with a W&R Long 3rd function valve.



Will post some action pics when I get a chance.

Maybe his has been asked before, but:
Obviously there’s many benefits to a grapple.
Other than brush use, I find myself wanting some type of clamping when I try to pick up / balance a 28 ft log on forks that are probably 3.5 ft apart. This can take several efforts to find the balancing point.
How real is the danger with a grapple of locking onto a lopsided load and putting a twist in the loader arms?
