We’re thinking alike this week Don. I cleaned entire front fence Tuesday and Wednesday plus quite a bit of cross fence. I installed hog wire on my entire perimeter fence when we bought this place in 2006, and don’t have to deal with hog issues like my neighbors.

I can’t use blades on my Echo SRM-280T brush cutter because of the hog wire so use the string. I heard about this stuff and it had good ratings so, I bought a 90’ spool for a trial. I’m using the .105” and it takes forever to wear it out. Haven’t made a dent in 90’ spool in 6 months of use. I’m going to get a spool of their .155 line to try on my Swisher walk behind string trimmer.

Nice day here, cool, but sunny. I got a bit of work done on the deck project, had a nice lunch with friends, then took the dogs for a walk. I wish every day was like this!

Hope all you guys get better. Getting older is a challenge!

Peanut Hay (round bales) - farm & garden - by owner - sale
Who can tell by looking at this if this is the good perennial peanut hay or the less desirable remnants of the peanut plant after harvesting?
If the latter, what do they use it for?
Up North the crummy hay was sent down to Kennett Square in PA to use in mushroom farming.
Funny, I don't think I've ever seen a peanut plant.

Mighty sore from three hours of brush chipping but got it all done.

I used to visit the Lee County Peanut Company in Giddings, TX, once a year and buy 100 to 300 lbs. of raw shelled peanuts that we roasted ourselves. (I've been a peanut addict as long as I can remember.) I never saw the shelling machines in operation, but once I found a rancher loading his truck with finely ground peanut hulls. He said he mixed that with molasses for his calves. But I never learned anything about peanut hay, or using the rest of the plant for anything.

They are still open. I bought some for my neighbor in AZ. Last year. I don’t know where they get their peanuts from.

Your place looks like a park. Hog wire around the perimeter is very good.

Funny, I don't think I've ever seen a peanut plant.

I have planted peanuts in my garden and they grew. They require sandy soil. Here is a pic of the peanuts after I pulled them out of the ground and put them on the fence to dry. As you can see there is quite a bit of foliage. In a large field, after it goes through the combine, a tractor would rake it up and then square bale it. There are no peanuts grown in Lee county any more. The government issued allotments but then the government bought back the allotments that allowed peanut selling/planting. Without the allotments you cannot sell the peanuts. My Dad had two Peanut fields, about 50 acres and he did make peanut hay after the peanuts were harvested. Now those field are coastal hay. Lee County Peanut Co still sells peanuts but no longer processes them. Basically they are just a storefront retailer where you can buy as many pounds shelled or unshelled. The peanuts are grown and processed in other parts of Texas I think or they could even get them from out of state, I'll have to find out.

Sorry about the large pic for those with slow internet, I wanted the peanuts to be visible.
