the best laid plans of mice and men, or in my case, the big L and R I put on the
small Massey's rear arms, but in painting my new balls I went too far and no more indicators.
So of course I put them on backwards the first time. I was confused by then, went to the other Massey thinking
that would give me a clue, these arms have double bends in them. Of course the larger Massey from India not Japan comes
with totally straight lower arms. So I switched them around and all went back together.

Then I vacuumed the car and truck and am off with the Outback for its first annual service. Polishing the inner dome lights I'm sure, adjusting the tension
in the hood insulation and massaging the wiper blades. For the highly discounted price of you have to be kidding.
I always tell them, just an oil change and anything absolutely mandatory. They already check a bunch of stuff if for no other reason they are looking
for work. Frankly the Subaru folks seem to have a refreshingly honest approach to things. No pacs on new cars, no pressure from F&I. Free carwash.
Kindle is charged and off to the big city.

Don, try rewarding Whipper at each stage; treat for coming when called, treat for sitting when asked, and treat for when the collar is put on or taken off. You can eventually change over the treats to affection.

That might work. Now no treats are involved.

Do not make the mistake of doing like my BIL did and say that when the boy is 18 he can do what he likes. Keep a tight reign on him till he moves out. It will give him a reason to forced responsibility on himself to become productive to live on his own.

I'm no dog trainer, that's certain. But, my Wife is, and I've heard her give that advice plenty of times over the years. All dogs are different, and respond different to various rewards. Sometimes it's just trial and error until you find something that truly has their attention, and makes them want to please you to get it.

As for the stepson, we haven't given up on him. He's complained (a lot!) about his life being so restricted, so we lifted his curfew when he got out of high school. The hope was that he'd be more responsive to other suggestions and opportunities regarding being a responsible adult. Unfortunately, that approach doesn't appear to be working with him. May have to rethink the loosened reign theory.

... and thanks for the personal message, Don.

Don, I mow the weeds down simply for the fire hazard they present. Or so I thought. Is this wrong?

No, it is right. I keep the yard and extend yard mowed so we can stop a grass fire there. I'm talking about my other acres. With rock all along the bottom sides of the house and a metal roof and a pool with 17,000 gallons I feel comfortable.
