Thanks, I threw one in the cart over on Amazon.
Don't ya just love how the gang here can spend our money!? I am looking a getting a new belt sander because my old craftsman is howling like a sick coyote. Also drooling over a Tormek so I can finally properly sharpen my tools.

I know, you see these things, and think "wow, I sure could use one of those!". And Amazon makes it soooo easy to order stuff.. it is disgusting. :)

I keep ONE sharp drill in each index. fractional Letter and number. When one gets "used up", it's replaced from an old beat up tackle box that holds the 5 pack paper envelopes that twist drill usually come in.
If the size needing replaced is one I don't have, that triggers a "buy" order. ;-)

The system works quite well, but I never really know if I'm ahead on inventory. Some sizes just don't get used much. I've been considering a metric "set", but those darn things come in too many sizes. With a caliper in hand, it seems like there is always something on hand "close enough". I always consider "probable hole size" when selecting a twist drill. Lots to take into consideration there.

I really like your system. . Makes way too much sense.

I think I'll start putting my 'just used' bits back into a single sized index and keep new and sharpened ones in the Huot dispenser.

The best deal I found for the Huot cabinet is $95 & free shipping.
Huot Three-Drawer Drill Bit Dispenser Cabinet for Jobber Length Fractional Sizes 1/16" to 1/2" in 1/64" Increments: Tool Cabinets: Amazon.com: Industrial & Scientific
That's a bit much for me. I might do 70. The cabinet is only 8x8x15" (rounded up)

Yea, but that's the cheap part of the equation, add up how much it will cost to stock that cabinet and it will make you think twice, no! three times about buying it. LOL

In this day and age with most anything available at the click of a keyboard and a few days in transit. Holding inventory of seldom used twist drill seems like a poor use of cash.

With only me pulling tools from the crib, one or two good bits is all I require. Of course I must have a kazillion #10, #21, and #30 ,and then there are the .250... make that 2 kazillion. But, I've had them for so long, they were "cheap" back then ;-)
