I need to tube the front tires of my BX2670. Always losing air.
What's the best way to pop the bead on one side of the rim to put in a tube? I'm not thinking beating it with a 5# hammer and a block of wood is really going to work.
Thanks!

I lay it on the floor with the air removed and drive over it as close to the wheel rim as possible....usually does the job.

I saw a video on youtube (can't find it now) that was so slick.

The guy put the tire under the hitch of his truck and used a scissors car jack between the tire and the truck hitch. He just used his electric drill to turn the jack (could of used manual handle) and busted the bead in about 2 seconds. Many of those scissors jack's bases have a nice curve built right into it that fits to the curvature of the rim.

I suppose any type of jack, even a hydraulic bottle jack, would work too.

A tire hammer works good. Breaking both beads is recommended.

Last time I had to break a bead I used the loader bucket.

Its a BX front wheel, with the air removed it might come off the bead with hand pressure!
I bought the Harbor Freight tire changer for small tires (4-12in) and it works good, was 30 something $ with a 20% off coupon.

I've done that in the past but it can be a pain if the bead is tight and possibly damage the tire if your not replacing it.

Thanks for the replies. I can't use the loader without the front tires on the BX. I'm hoping I can slip the tube in by just breaking the bead, but I'll bet I'll need to pull one side of the tire off the rim.

Anytime I have put tubes in anything, I had to break both beads. Just could not sneak it in there with only one side broken.

Oh well. It's a tinker toy tire. It can't be that big of a deal, right? I suppose I'd better get an iron to pull one side off the rim.

This will do it pretty easy Mini-Tire Changer just did some 20x8-10 front tires off a kubota, couldn't break them with the loader and this changed them easy. Took about 5 min a tire to change once I figured it out.

I used my shop crane on a rear tire.

I will say larger tires are generally easier to break the bead on, I did my skid steers 12x16.5 tires with the loader and a couple bars.
The little 5.30x12 trailer tires and 20x8-10 turf tires? Not happening!

Most larger equipment/semi tires use more of a tapered bead that breaks easier.

Have removed & replaced the 18x6.50-8 turf fronts on our B5100D and the 16x6.50-8 turf fronts on our G5200H.
Lots of cussin' until I got the HF tire changer, which is surprisingly effective considering the cheesy build quality.
A lot faster than doing it with the HF 20T hydraulic press.

The best way is a slide hammer. Works every time.

Going to stop at HF on Friday to get the tire changer. May first call Discount tire, though. The changer plus tubes may be more than having them done.
