Why left and right brakes?

Really useful in everyday situations, except on my tractor. Can't figure out why I have split brakes on my hydrostat. I cannot press the brake and the forward pedal at the same time. The only use I can see is if I have the cruise set....maybe I can use a brake pedal and the throttle to power through a tight turn?

Yup break steering, just remember to lock in both pedals when traveling the road.

Do now know all brands but think rather common setup on the hydrostat tractors. Not sure have done it but on my Kubota I could use both feet to press the go pedal and the other for a brake but would be tight.

The individual brakes on tractor work much like the zero turn mowers and skid steer equipment.

Mine are on the left side, opposite the hydro pedals.

Some or our tractors have the Hydro pedals on the right, and the brake pedals on the left. It sure makes it easier. But there are ways still to go forward and still use split brakes. One is the "Kubota shuffle" of moving your left foot over the brake pedals while your right foot still controls the treadle pedal. I have done it when I had a Kubota, but was never really good at it. I usually used the cruise control lever to get my forward motion and my right foot on the split brake pedals, cause that is where Kubota put them. My current Kioti is just a joy to use with the split brakes on the left side.

A Prophet, not fully appreciated in his own Time.

Jeff, I am writing down these quotes, and I will present them to my wife later. :D

Where they belong, in my opinion:)

No, they belong on the right side so you can use your left foot for the clutch pedal.

Clutch pedal? "We Federales, we don't need no stinking clutch pedal":)

Brakes are for steering when you pull a heavy load with a light front end. At least thats how we did it on the farm.
