Well if you keep a cover on the grill and indoors during the winter when not used I'm sure it will last a lot longer.

A few years ago, we fell victim to the Costco stainless steel giant that had it all. Side burner, searing burner, back burner, rotating thingy, drawers and so on...

Thanks, I'm in the same boat but with a Sam's Club super duper cooker. Found the parts on Amazon:thumbsup:
I do like having a working gas grill in the winter. Getting a hot enough wood fire is tough but I wasn't going back down the gas road again if it meant buying a new one. Never would have thought that Amazon had those parts, thanks again!

A few years ago, we fell victim to the Costco stainless steel giant that had it all. Side burner, searing burner, back burner, rotating thingy, drawers and so on... I went to clean it up the second spring and the 4 bbq burners were rotted out along with the shields above them. No worries, we had lifetime burner warranty, but found out it was $70 for shipping and handling. We finally got the new burners and shields and they lasted several years, but when they needed replacing again, we bought a Traeger (had small gas BBQs for camping also when needed). SIL made a comment that he wished they had a nice big BBQ like that Costco one. We loaded it up and delivered it to them... I told my daughter that with Amazon and the interweb, she should be able to find burners cheap. She did, 4 for $15 dollars. Ordered them and now they have a wonderful BBQ. My advice, depending on how big of unit you need, take a good look at Weber units (one of our camping units) and if you are looking for big, consider one with brass burners. I am told they don't rust out.

Color me SOLIDLY in the Weber camp!
I have had a bunch of the cheapo's.
Some were even the fancy looking (stainless) cheapo's.
There ain't nothi'n like a Weber!
Spend the extra $ up front ..... for a Weber!

That's not the main culprit with burner, heat shield and grate failure. It's the heat and other products of cooking that seam to eat the internals on several brands (another pun....I'm so proud of myself).

The Costco story sounds very familiar. We would do that repeatedly until the internals were so rotten they couldn't be rebuilt.

We have a Holland Cooker as well. It's lasted for some time but rarely gets used. Not that is bad it's just a s-l-o-w cooker and we rarely (pun intended thank you very much!) have the time.
I'm assuming the Holland folks are excellent cooks and have the patience to make excellent BBQ.

I won't disagree but I would also point out that the area most gas grills suffer with is low heat. There is little difference in low and high on most grills, the Holland does not have that problem, you can truly slow cook ribs or brisket on one, mainly because low is actually low.

....rib's -- brisket.....mmmmm:thumbsup:

I'm waiting for the temps to warm up enough to fire up my smoker. I need to build an insulated smoker for the winter.

Our Hamilton Beach, model 84131 is a little over 4 years old and I've not had to replace any parts yet. Sears had them for $399.99, but put them on clearance in some stores for $79.96 plus tax, so my daughter and son-in-law had bought one. I found some of them in the Sears Outlet store in Grapevine Mills Outlet Mall for $199.99, told the manager about a store having had them, but was out, for $79.96, so he called someone, then sold it to me for $79.96 plus tax; total $86.56. If it dies tonight, I will have gotten more than my money's worth from it.

Fortunately I use my smoker and Weber kettle year round.

I'll play...Weber has certainly lost the war on cost! BUT...unlike the cheaper brands their shells are forever (or at least used to be). And their replacement parts like burners and grates and flavor bars are even available at my hardware store. We use a grill 52 weeks per year. My 6 burner "Summit" is a gas hog and I've been looking for something smaller. I want a 3 burner grill where I can heat from left and right sides while the meat is in the middle with no/low heat. Every other 3 burner I have seen runs the burners side to side instead of front to back. So I guess I've decided to "suck it up"...probably the Genesis (I've owned that model before when it was cheaper). Dunno about anybody else but I have never used the side burner but have to say that wasps love to build there.

I'll throw in for the Weber grills. I bought a Spirit a couple of years ago, and it's great.

The Spirit is a simple grill, but it works, and has been very reliable so far. Now that I'm looking at the Genesis line, I might upgrade to that when this one fails me, but I expect it'll be a while.

My experience exactly. A whole host of cheap, junk gas grills before.
