Minor milestone day for me, 67th birthday. But one is only as old as one feels and you might imagine some days how old I feel...;) Frankly I'm happy I made it this far. Every day is an adventure, every day is an opportunity for kindness, and life is good.

Poured first cup of coffee. 65° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 90° with lots of sun. Nice day to spend time outside in the shade yesterday. Expect same for today.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DREW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good Morning All.

-10 and going to a high of 14 above. Winds NNE 7 mph and no snow in the forecast until maybe Saturday. :(
Once it warms up a bit more then I will get off my butt and move some more of the snow/ice piles.

The wood stove was dead out this morning. I had to start it from scratch. It is a good thing I have the oil furnace for backup. Temps in here never fall below 55.

Happy Birthday Drew!

Happy birthday Drew!

Balmy day for us down in the South.

Got my truck fixed and I'm driving it again. The hood is a little dented and doesn't fit quite as nicely any more but it is secured and that's call I care.

My FEL hydraulic parts have all arrived now I have to assemble them. It'll be a "fun" project.

Got my dock light and water line fixed. It turned out I had t replace 400 ft of plastic pipe. Do not ever use PEX for outdoor! Outdoor temperature will cause multiple micro crack and they will spring leak every where. I wound up replace 2/3 of my PEX pipe with large diameter garden hose instead.

Post office gave me a notice that my mail box was too low. It was installed right but the road had been raised 4". I try taking it off the base to I could raise it and wound up breaking the aluminum base. I'll be buy and installing a new mail box today after work so I can receive mail.

Had a friend and his two lovely daughters stayed with us for the weekend. We caught a few fish and fun was had by all.

Good morning! Cloudy, foggy, 49˚.

Happy Birthday Drew! Was all the fat in the crust in that cherrie pie or was there some in the filling also? I might attempt a low fat one, no oils or butter added, you already eliminated the sugar, with the cherries being sweet enough. One thing I did learn lately is that if your'e diabetic or pre-diabetic, fats not carbohydrates are the main culprit.

I'm diabetic and I learned that 17 years ago, no medication for me so far, diet and exercise. Fats are the enemy, some carbs are bad too though, example, white rice is worse than ice cream.

Happy birthday Drew! 20's this morning, 40's later, big old nor'easter tomorrow with heavy rain and wind. My son in Front Royal is expecting 12"-18" of snow.

From what I understand, white rice may raise your blood sugar more than ice-cream will, but blood sugar is only a symptom of diabetes. Ice-Cream will actually worsen the ability of your cells to receive the sugar/insulin and therefore is worse for your diabetes over-all than is white rice. Below are two good sites. The first site, mastering diabetes, mentions a summit that my wife attended. It was a week long and included lectures from several doctors who all agree that fat is much worse in the long-run for diabetics than simple carbs (i.e. white rice). I'm not sure if you can still access the summit, but if you can, it is well worth spending the time watching the lectures. The other site, nutrition facts, is just a really good article by Dr. Greger. You probably already know this information, but it is still good and other people may be interested.

How Exactly Does Type 2 Diabetes Develop? | NutritionFacts.org

"Insulin resistance is the cause of both prediabetes and type 2 diabetes. Ok, so what is the cause of insulin resistance? Insulin resistance is now accepted to be closely associated with the accumulation of fat within our muscle cells. This fat toxicity inside of our muscles is a major factor in the cause of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes, as it interferes with the action of insulin. I’ve explored how fat makes our muscles insulin resistant (see What Causes Insulin Resistance?), how that fat can come from the fat we eat or the fat we wear (see The Spillover Effect Links Obesity to Diabetes), and how not all fats are the same (see Lipotoxicity: How Saturated Fat Raises Blood Sugar). It’s the type of fat found predominantly in animal fats, relative to plant fats, that appears to be especially deleterious with respect to fat-induced insulin insensitivity. But this insulin resistance in our muscles starts years before diabetes is diagnosed."

30°F and snowing this morning, going up to 45° later and changing to rain.

We had a relatively decent weekend weather-wise. Cool, but not cold. Didn't get squat done Saturday, though. Took the boy to a salvage yard to look for a wheel for his Hyundai Tiburon, with those silly low-profile tires. Couldn't find what he was looking for after walking the entire place. Somehow, I also managed to throw out my back while we were there. I've had a compressed disc in my lower back since 1988, and it gives me fits on occasion. It's been a few years since it's really bothered me, but this weekend was a duesey. I couldn't hardly breathe without pain. Used my TheraCane and a heating pad for about half-hour before bed, and woke up Sunday morning feeling much better. I guess it just needed to relax, and at some point during the night popped itself back into place.

Wifey spent much of the weekend in the garage staining the wood for the base boards. I got out Sunday, feeling much better and glad to be moving around, and got one of the burn piles lit. In addition to the random tree branches and leaves, this one had a good deal of old lumber from the house remodel, and burned hot for quite some time.

Also noted that the peach and pear trees are starting to bud already.

Got some other stuff done inside as well. Changed the door knob and lock on the french door from the kitchen into the laundry room to match all the new ones, and got the washer and dryer upstairs and into the new laundry room. Wife tells me that this is the first time since that house was built that those two machines have been together. This was the original plan for the old small porch, it just never happened. Still needs some finishing touches, but she was all smiles last night.

Then, we awoke this morning to about an inch of snow. Looks nice, but warming temperatures and rain later today should wipe it out.

Happy Birthday, Drew.
