Is this DOT compliant?

Is this overhang compliant? It will be properly secured. It's about 10" past the ramp hinges.

As a retired OTR truck driver, I can say that it IS compliant, as long as EVERYTHING is properly secured. Any overhang less than 4 feet is good to go. At, or over 4 feet overhang MUST have either a RED or ORANGE flag that is at least 12 inches square for daytime travel. For night travel there MUST be a flashing red or yellow light at the end of the overhang.

I would be inclined to add fork pockets, or drop the forks at the front of the trailer just so make sure they aren't a problem...
You could bring forks and a bucket that way.

Yup, do that all the time. :thumbsup: This time all I needed were the fork and didn't realize they would hang over until I got it up there. Then I was just being lazy.
I see no problem with it if it's legal and secured. :confused3:

Thanks for the feedback y'all! Not sure how to flag the fork tips and have it stay. Duct tape I guess?

If I 'dump' the tips to stay within the rear then all the weight of the loader would sit on the tips or I'd have to block the loader arms up 2-3ft. Neither seemed like a good idea.

Usually I have the bucket or grapple on and this isn't an issue. Could take the forks off and place at the front of the trailer but I was being lazy.

I have found that duct tape and red shop rags make great easy to use and re-use flags. just toss the tape and reuse the flag. use the nice bright red ones.. not the dull pink ones.

We use a C-Clamp to attach the flag if no tie off...

Not the cheap one from China but a more robust one that you can really clamp without distorting the clamp...

When I am at the box lumber centers, I grab a few of their plastic red flags and a length of the cheap plastic string. Tie a knot with the string and the flag and the other end of the string to my overhang. No close point. use a longer string. Or a spring clamp or duct tape. My extension ladders all have a string flag at the top for hauling. Jon

Strap or chain down the forjs and you are good to go.

I would paint the tips bright orange to preclude 'knee-knocking', and act as a flag for extreme tail-gaiters. Easily seeing the tips when loading pallets is another benefit.
