Just how tightly do they fit? And what keeps them from vibrating out/ falling out. Especially if working on a slope?

You can make the fit as tight as you want by sanding a taper in the outer cap. I sanded mine to fit about a half inch into the loader tube. I tap it in with the heel of my hand to close and twist while pulling the handle to open. Its never come loose in +/- 20 hours of tractor use, some on a fairly steep slope. If you were to put a heavy object in the back of the tray, it is possible for it to slide outward and "hammer" the cap open when working on a slope. I keep this in mind when loading the tray. A crude but effective safety measure would be to use a small bungee as shown. I usually carry a couple in one of the trays anyway.

As mentioned earlier, there are many ideas out there for utilizing this wasted space. I posted this one for it's simplicity and low cost. The point made by Ivan49 about snagging is well taken. I would probably remove the trays when doing thick woods work or heavy excavating to avoid a possible problem.

On mine I use this space as a storage for my chains. All my tools are in the tool box on the back. I used a tool box from NH that is all molded plastic and is about twice the size as the Kubota one. I think any idea for extra storage space is great. I am sure there are many ideas out there different from yours and mine.

Might try that for my L4060hstc. It has no tool box at all. Just a couple tiny cubbies in the cab that barely hold a flashlight. Been trying to figure out where to get some on board tool storage.

Yes, the small plastic OEM tool box is all but useless. I'm looking at the larger Kubota 5A3OR model:

It bolts directly to the step mount but it's twice the price. I'll take a look at yours before I order though. Thanks for the link.

I just mounted a steel toolbox I found at an antique store where the tiny one used to be. Much handier. I can fit an SAE socket, a set of wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, extra pins, etc in it. Then i attached the stock one to the left fender. I mounted it with heavy duty Velcro. It's a very handy place to store sunglasses, my cell phone, a pocketknife, etc while I'm on the tractor.

That is how some sellers on eBay get away with not paying eBay as much. You only give eBay a percentage of the price of the item, not the total with shipping.
