Massey Ferguson 1736 General Thread

I have done the same on my 1736, turn the key and wait for the glow plug light to go out, then crack, she starts right up. When I purchased my 1736 I had a block heater installed and the dealer said I really shouldn't need it. The few times when I did start the tractor last winter and did not use the block heater she fired right up nice and smooth.

My New Holland TC33D is not as happy when it starts in the winter and its also has a block heater which I use when it gets below 20 degrees. I plug the heater in for 1-2 hours and 3-4 if its below zero. She has always started on the first cracking however, she is just not as smooth as the Massey until she warms up after 2-3 minutes.

Between my neighbor's NH TC35 and my MF1529, I notice, just the opposite. His NH fires right up, .. no waiting for glow plugs, and it's clean! My MF, even with glow plugs, smokes and runs rough for 15 seconds or so. I think, every diesel engine is unique. ??

Wow, I would have bet every Massey starts nice in the cold and every New Holland not so nice. I had a friend quite a while back who had a Kubota and it started easily and smooth in the cold so I thought it was a New Holland issue with cold starts.

I'm hoping my Massey gets better. The fuel may be old, even though, I've added some new ... waiting for the winter blend. And, most likely, it hasn't seen any "real workout", lately. I did add some Seafoam, today.

Yes, I'm waiting to purchase Diesel fuel myself, how do we know when the winter blend switch has occurred?

There are no truck stops close to me so I have to purchase from local gas stations who have only 1 Diesel pump and I'm not sure they would know if its the winter or summer blend, but I have never asked.

They should be able to tell you, when they get the winter blend. (or when they "think, they have it")

I went for some diesel today, so asked the clerks behind the counter, when they switched to "winter blend?" .... they looked at each other, like it was their 1st day on the job. The one said, "I don't believe we get 'winter blend'". There was a tractor trailer outside unloading, so asked the driver .... he didn't know, "As their trucks were natural gas". It's a "well kept secret"! LOL

In the past, on other diesels if I wasn't sure what was in the tank I would top it off with #1 diesel in November and then run "winter blend" for teh rest of the winter.

That's too funny! That's why I never asked. I'm sure some will know but others will look at you like you have 2 heads.

I like the idea of adding some #1 just to be safe.

It's been "unseasonably warm" here in the upper mid-west so I still haven't seen any cold start issues with my 1736. We have had 1 or 2 nights below freezing and it started easily.

Thanks. time will tell on how well it all works.
The light bars and Whelen roof light have been there since week 1. They are excellent.
I just installed the camera and strobes and red LED light strip that notifies me that the park brake is on.
i will get to test things this Friday.

Can anyone tell me the inside tire to tire distance on the 1736? I pick mine up on Saturday and I want to make sure that it will fit on my trailer that has an open middle. If someone knows the inside distance between the tires that would be helpful. Thanks!

Mine has OEM Farm treads 41" inner lug to inner lug . 13" wide tires. It can be rough on the ramps on some trailers.

I got the industrials on mine. The gap on my trailer is 30" so I should be fine.

Picked up my 1736 today. Does anyone know if a digital copy of the manual exists? Mine did not come with a manual. I am going to contact the dealer Monday but I would rather not have to wait a few days to do some reading up on it.

Second, the tractor seem to make quite a bit of noise from the rear end under tight turning. Is that normal?
