Here is Euro, or Global as JD calls it.

I have a buddy with a similar JCB but with a factory Backhoe. Its a different class of machine than a typical CUT. sort of like a Deere 110. Its size leans toward a large compact, but its weight, traction, and hydraulic power are substantially higher than a CUT. Its a cool machine, and I almost bought one used until I looked closely at the electrical system it had been burned up and badly repaired...

Buying a grapple without mounts might be the way to go.

Not a Wicked Grapple but I thought this shot seemed kinda wicked. Today's brush burning.

That's not sporting! You've got to drop the grapple into the fire and then drag it back out with the hoses; well, that's how Eric[theOracle] does it! (poor guy, that's what happens when you document everything out on the Internet- never hear the last of it!)

Yikes! I've forgotten to lower the levers and dropped my forks, but never a grapple. And never anything in a fire. When burning brush I drop the load near the fire and then close the lid* and push the pile unto the fire. I roll it up until I see coals below, then sit back and wait for it to burn down. The county has a 10'x10' rule and I think I've used up my complimentary visits from the big red trucks. So I play it safe now. Works for both of us.

*I push brush only, no logs or rocks

I think that if you set a couple of chairs around the fire and have some marshmallows on sticks that the size then doesn't matter as it's merely a "camp fire"

I don't recall what Eric was doing to get into that situation. I've pushed stuff into fires (and it's gotten a bit on the warm side), but running in and dumping (as in from a grapple)

I was spending so much time tending to fires that I no longer burn: and the times of the year that I could do it are pretty limited due to all the rain. I've resorted to relocating brush elsewhere, or in the case of big stumps, bury (infrequent, and requires renting an excavator). Really looking forward to using the new EA grapple to get a bunch of my "temporary" piles relocated.

Topic: "The WICKED Root & Debris GRAPPLE!!!!!" Just wishing to keep on-topic. And no, I'm not whining (kind of a pot shot- eh?)

You are just like the energizer bunny, keep complaining and whining. I was discussing what model would work best with Travis as I'm kinda a tweener. I dont' need your permission to do so. If anyone is derailing the topic here isn't you with the whining. You seem really defensive about the whole weight of the grapple. Get over it.

Nothing I wrote is incorrect.

The internet, curses!

FWIW, I'll have the biggest fires again in the county this winter.

I knew there was a reason they made fire resistant hydraulic fluid :D

Well that is pretty simple too. For low end AR15's I like DPMS. For high end I like Daniel Defense. Which ones do you like? Oh, and do you prefer direct impingement gas systems or operating rod?

Daniel Defense as a high end AR? Come over to my house and we'll expand your horizons a bit:D

Hey Travis,
We're purchasing an MX5100 HST 4x4 in the near future, and are looking at attachments for it. It will be fully ballasted out, filled tires, good box blade, etc.
My question is, would you recommend the standard compact grapple, or the mega compact/utility duty grapple? (Probably looking in the 55" - 60", single lid variety)
Our ground is fairly rocky, and I'd probably end up pushing some trees out with it, if that makes any difference.
Thanks!
-Luke

I have a 5800 with the 55" single lid. If I did it again the only thing I might change is getting a dual lid...maybe.

Luke, I do not have a STRONG passionate recommendation for you, but I can 100% scream that you'll love the Wicked Grapple.

You've narrowed it down to a couple of good choices and I'd definitely lean toward the 60" single lid compact model.
Those started out great and have only improved over the years with the 37" opening and new protective grid.
The only difference between the 54" and 60" is the outer tine spacing.

Now, if you're like Rick and really want the wider opening and higher capacity, the 55" utility version is doable, but it will tax your capacity more.
Rick isn't stupid. He knew what he wanted and it fits his specific application beautifully.
If he didn't have a larger tractor in the stable for heavier lifting, he may have went lighter for the smaller tractor.

We've got both out in the field on MX series tractors. They both look Wicked and I have proof!
I can't thank all of the Wicked Grapple owners enough for providing me with the AWESOME photo arsenal.

These are 72" Dual Lid compact models, but you'll get the idea.

Well Matthew came through yesterday early morning so the grapple got put on storm duty. Just got a couple pictures as it was pretty busy and some of the widow makers required all my hands, feet and eyes to deal with.

Today, when I went to try to grab a couple stumps, for the first time I regretted having the grapple on instead of my bucket. It still worked out.

Sorry about the damage you had. On the plus side your little girl looks pretty happy!

That is my post a few back. I bought the 56" single lid. I know plenty of people say the 50" is strong enough and it probably is but the 56" is still super light at 350lbs. It is actually lighter than my pallet forks. I don't know what your application is so I won't comment on width. I will tell you that the grapple is light enough where I was able to fit as many oak logs in it as I could shut the jaw around and the loader didn't even care.

Thanks for the info! Looks sharp and top notch. Did you debate at all to go 60" vs 54"? I get so close to pulling the trigger, then I question the size, and then get scarred off by the price! I go look at Titans, love the price, then get scarred by the quality... And round and round I go!!!! :-(
