Good Morning! 71F @ 5:15AM. Sunny. High 94F. Winds light and variable.
My second car was a Pinto wagon, Don. Bright yellow, a graduation gift from my parents. Except I didn't like it, and instead talked them into co-signing a loan for a new Datsun 310. It wasn't a great car either, but at least it got me out to California, which the Pinto wouldn't have done. I think the transmission went out a week or two after I left.
Tires have gotten ridiculously expensive, Lenny. Hard to understand why with the price of oil being so low.
A new wildfire started about 25 miles northeast of hear up the Feather River canyon yesterday morning near the little town of Tobin. Fortunately it was a quiet day wind wise and so far it's only consumed 100 or so acres. But that was at 7PM last night. Should get another report here in a couple of hours. But the smoke was quite noticeable at sundown, and seems to be getting thicker as the night progresses. Hope that doesn't mean increased activity.
Thanks for all the encouragement fellas! It's been a long night. Maybe I'm a slow painter, or perhaps there is just too much waiting between coats, but this paint job started at about 8:30 yesterday evening and I still want to get two more coats of clear on this morning before I call it done. I've taken extra time to sand some runs out of the primer/sealer as well, and at that point almost stopped. But waiting longer than four hours means having to sand the entire van again, so with the temps already at 75F I kept on going. 75 is supposed to be the lower limit of temperature the thinner I'm using is good for, and any lower than that and the paint will be more prone to run and take longer between coats to evaporate. And yes, it did run and yes it is taking longer before it's ready for the next coat. In addition to the runs, I've banged the spray gun and hose into the fresh paint a time or two, and in spite of my best effort with the portable Dyson vacuum, many bugs have found new eternal homes under the various layers. I also found it very difficult to get the color coat on evenly, so this van may have a new name: Tiger. So not as nice as I hoped the job would turn out, but as good as can be expected under these relatively primitive conditions. And not as bad as it could have gone, at least so far.
I've been keeping an ear and eye out for out of the ordinary events, Eric. Living out here in the middle of nowhere all by myself makes me a great target for alien abduction. Or maybe we can just sit around the big screen and watch the two clowns in the debates?:confused2:
Drew, PM me your address and I'll get the spray booth in the mail as soon as the van is done. I'm not sure I'm ever gonna try to do something like this again.
Well, better get goin', time for another coat...
