52F rain showers coming to end soon w/mid 70's for high... no hard frost this morning compare to the last two mornings. :)

Both kittens got me up early, guess they were lonely.

Enjoy the day all.

Good morning all, ^3 this morning going to 75 with decreasing clouds then a good chance of rain through friday. Don't know what is up today except for an early morning trip to the super market.

Have a great day Ed

Drinking first cup of coffee. 48° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 66° with clouds in the afternoon. .31" rain yesterday. Another not much planned day. Have not adapted to weather change yet.
Good Morning All

Still at it, just about ready to shoot a couple coats of clear and call it a night.

RNG, looks great. Can I have your paint booth when you're done with it? Great job on that too.

no alien stories this morning, relax. No I wasn't a Trekkie, but I have read just about every sci fi book out there.
First contact stories are pretty interesting.

RS, is it really worth your time to deal with those huge stumps? I know you get lots of good wood but even with your cool lift, still challenging to split. You have such a large support area that having parts fall on your feet looks covered. Even half that stump would hurt...
Of course if I was heating with wood, I'd split anything. Frankly it's fun to do...

off to run errands this morning, then last dry day for awhile. Will be working inside travel trailer getting that cleaned up and ready to leave on Saturday.

Good morning. Proving difficult to get on tbn today, loading back pages almost impossible. Fault is in our phone line, so if you don't hear from me for a while, me being dead is not necessarily the most likely possibility :).

Got a chance to try out the new router yesterday, making a new weatherboard for our back door.
All went well until the final 45 degree chamfer. Unlike my last machine, there are 2 plunge adjusters. I got one wrong and re-profiled my work bench too.

RNG. That is starting to look really smart. (Btw Drew, RNG doesn't really have to paint at night, he just heard that setup is best to improve chances of being abducted by those aliens )

65 and raining, going to 72 and rain. Usually rains most of the week of the State Fair.

Planted my clover seed yesterday, just in time before the rains, and cleared a downed oak on a trail, covered in grapevines and trumpet creeper...now I can get through this short cut I have missed all summer. Did a bit of mowing to celebrate.

Didn't get home from a 7pm meeting until 2:15am and it was still going when I left.

RNG, really impressive paint set up.

RS, holy cow on the firewood pic.

Morning to all.
Nice day in Montana yesterday. Stopped and looked at an old farm wagon for sale on the way home. It's a good thing my company truck only holds so much!
Pick up wife tonight at airport so my chaperone will keep me out of trouble hopefully.
Still researching on the Ford 2N hydraulics so I can tackle that when home. Unless I stumble across a used deal, 600 bucks for the two rear tires and tubes seem to be the best price I found shipped into Oklahoma.
Went for a short bicycle ride on a local trail on Sunday. Thought I was in shape from backpacking pretty regular. Different muscles I guess because I feel it again this morning.
Hope all is well and have a good day!

42 this morning and headed to 75 today. Just a tenth of a inch of rain yesterday. But WOW did fall arrive in a hurry. My blood is still too thin had to find long sleeves yesterday.

Hopefully will be able to get the rebar for the grain bin pad put in and tied today. Need to check level on gravel first though. I finished tamping it right at dark. Ordered concrete for Thursday and get up this morning to a 50% chance of rain. Maybe I need some plastic.

RNG. Looking good.

Good morning! 66˚ coolest temp in 4 months, nice day, I have a thousands things planned, might get to three.
Shift decal came for Dad's tractor and I found his owners manual.

RNG. That color reminds me of my first car (which I bought with my paper route money) a 1973 Ford Pinto. I added chrome mags to be cool and usually left the surf board racks on. Impressive paint booth.

Wife wants to get a tent to sleep in the yard????????????
Still tying to figure what that's about.
That just sounds like aliens abduction bait.

Good Morning! 71F @ 5:15AM. Sunny. High 94F. Winds light and variable.

My second car was a Pinto wagon, Don. Bright yellow, a graduation gift from my parents. Except I didn't like it, and instead talked them into co-signing a loan for a new Datsun 310. It wasn't a great car either, but at least it got me out to California, which the Pinto wouldn't have done. I think the transmission went out a week or two after I left.

Tires have gotten ridiculously expensive, Lenny. Hard to understand why with the price of oil being so low.

A new wildfire started about 25 miles northeast of hear up the Feather River canyon yesterday morning near the little town of Tobin. Fortunately it was a quiet day wind wise and so far it's only consumed 100 or so acres. But that was at 7PM last night. Should get another report here in a couple of hours. But the smoke was quite noticeable at sundown, and seems to be getting thicker as the night progresses. Hope that doesn't mean increased activity.

Thanks for all the encouragement fellas! It's been a long night. Maybe I'm a slow painter, or perhaps there is just too much waiting between coats, but this paint job started at about 8:30 yesterday evening and I still want to get two more coats of clear on this morning before I call it done. I've taken extra time to sand some runs out of the primer/sealer as well, and at that point almost stopped. But waiting longer than four hours means having to sand the entire van again, so with the temps already at 75F I kept on going. 75 is supposed to be the lower limit of temperature the thinner I'm using is good for, and any lower than that and the paint will be more prone to run and take longer between coats to evaporate. And yes, it did run and yes it is taking longer before it's ready for the next coat. In addition to the runs, I've banged the spray gun and hose into the fresh paint a time or two, and in spite of my best effort with the portable Dyson vacuum, many bugs have found new eternal homes under the various layers. I also found it very difficult to get the color coat on evenly, so this van may have a new name: Tiger. So not as nice as I hoped the job would turn out, but as good as can be expected under these relatively primitive conditions. And not as bad as it could have gone, at least so far.

I've been keeping an ear and eye out for out of the ordinary events, Eric. Living out here in the middle of nowhere all by myself makes me a great target for alien abduction. Or maybe we can just sit around the big screen and watch the two clowns in the debates?:confused2:

Drew, PM me your address and I'll get the spray booth in the mail as soon as the van is done. I'm not sure I'm ever gonna try to do something like this again.

Well, better get goin', time for another coat...

52F and sunny @ 10:00 ... high today is only supposed to be 72F, which should be pretty pleasant ... with a little wind, might even get some drying ... then looks like rain from Wednesday thru Sunday.

Low last night was 44.4F ... which is getting awfully close to the 30's ...

Probably work on firewood today, assuming the ground is dry enough.

RS, is it really worth your time to deal with those huge stumps? I know you get lots of good wood but even with your cool lift, still challenging to split.
A 24" to 28" inch seasoned sycamore or other medium-density round would be about ideal, as far as handling goes:

They aren't all that heavy if fully seasoned, and yield quite a bit of wood.

The larger rounds of unseasoned oak - and unseasoned sycamore for that matter - are a bear ... because they weigh so much.

The key will be to half or even quarter them with a chainsaw before trying to split them.

This is - I think - for Eric ... who commented about how I had stacked the rounds in a big jumbled pile: you were correct - the ones on the bottom of the pile do not seem to be seasoned as well as the ones that were on the top and were exposed to sunlight and better air flow.

So I won't be doing that again - they'll get stacked in rows - so that there is plenty of airflow around them.

Of course, I can do that at this point ... now that I have the area cleared and have the room to do it, and a grapple to do it with.

You have such a large support area that having parts fall on your feet looks covered.
The most danger there is having a half fall after the first split, while I'm trying to move it from the table grate back onto the beam for a re-split.

Even half that stump would hurt ...
And would probably cause a number of broken bones ...

Of course if I was heating with wood, I'd split anything.
I will never again allow us to be in the position of not having a backup supply of split firewood.

Frankly it's fun to do...
I have to admit, I do enjoy the activity of splitting wood.

Enjoy it even more now that I have a grapple and a log lift ... makes it so much easier.

Of course, I still have to stack all of it ...

These decorations adorn maybe a dozen other places, and will just take time to rub out with 500 wet'n'dry sandpaper.

I think it's time for a bite to eat and a nap!:licking::D

And
and
I almost did it.
But I didn't.
The rescue mission was setting up little kitties to adopt, right by the register, and one looked at me and just said take me home. Oh dear....
Maybe. A cat could come along in the truck or rv. It uses a litter box, so I don't have to hand pick up poop. That is a deal killer so far with a dog unless
someone already has one trained to go in the woods. Like they did on our farm growing up.

TSC gave me the coupon back, maybe I should go back tomorrow...
Tired of living by myself. Maybe a cat would be fun to have and good company.
Very good company.

Though many are aloof and haughty. Not for long with me, hit the road Jack, and don't you come back no more, no more....
I want/need a friendly cat. Not a neurotic Siamese, and one that doesn't shed.
We have a nice short-hair Mackerel Tabby that might be available ... I just need to check with the neighbors up the street and make sure it isn't theirs.

Very similar coloration and patterning to The Squeak ... just shorter hair ... and very friendly.

It does shed some ... but then it has been outside in the summer heat.

So far it's an outdoor cat ... The Woman won't let it inside because she's convinced that anything that has been outside must have fleas.

I've let it in a couple of times, but so far it hasn't been in long enough for the local pecking order to get re-established.

Healthy would be nice.
This one was in such good condition when it showed up on doorstep it must belong to someone.

And then you look at the little thing there saying take me home and love me and you forget everything...
Deadly ...

Maybe like RS I should get my fish tank going instead.
Fish don't talk a lot though; only so much you can tell a fish.
True dat ....

My daughter and son-in-law went to a wedding in Virginia last weekend (they are living in Maryland). I talked briefly to my daughter and she said they were going to skyline drive while they were in the area... do you have any pictures?
