Ford 3910
Hello,

I have a 1987 Ford 3910. When I lock the brakes to turn, either left or right, there is a shuddering noise. This tractor is 29 years old. It runs good. I understand the brakes run in oil. Could the brakes need attention? What happens if I do nothing? The brakes still work fine. What would be the cost to repair this problem?

Thanks,

JimmyAAA

Change the hydraulic oil and filter[both if it has 2]. Low spec and/or contaminated oil can cause brake chatter. Use New Holland 134 oil, New Holland Mastertran Ultraction, or CaseIH Hytran Ultraction. There are good generic equivalent oils out there as well as inferior crap posturing as OEM oil replacements.

Thank you, Sir. I'll try that.

FYI. You may still see the issue though. I have two 3910's and 4600 and a 2810. All make this sort of noise but at slightly different levels. No real issue though but do. Change the oil as it probably will be better than it is now. These brakes are awesome and last forever but can make some noise. Good luck.

My 3910 is an 84. Brakes are very smooth and effective.

Rick is a reliable source of information. Give the oil change a try.

Welcome to TBN. Post pics of your tractor when ya get a chance.

Are you using the brakes to turn assist? All my tractors brakes are quiet unless I use them to turn tight. Then they can make a little noise. This is normal.

If after the oil, filter change and running it for a few hours the chattering still exists, go to the New Holland dealer and buy a gallon of anti-chatter 251403. Pour all of it in the rear axle. $65, but quites the brakes.
