Do your own Fluids and Filters on a BX

How does SUD2 give you better starts? I hope you're not putting it in the motor...........

First, no gear whine in my B7800. I had whine with a different brand and by better starts I mean that there is less hesitation and a faster response when I step on the pedal. My guess is the SUD2 is a full synthetic and if you found another full synthetic it would probably work. It wasn't worth my time so I'm going with SUD2. It's not the cost of the SUD2 that's the issue but rather the difference in price between what you might substitute and the price of the SUD2. It's probably $10 or $20 or whatever and that's no big deal. It's not going to make me poor or Kubota rich so I'm OK with it.

I just did my 50 hour maintenance, and most likely a lot more.
I used Amsoil synthetic for everything.
-Engine oil and filter went good (color was dark)
-Hydraulic filter went good (color of oil looks like new still)
-2 fuel filters (bottom was a little PITA, but doable) (saw some junk in the first filter near the tank, both were darkish in color, could be normal)
-The mower gear oil was very clean but I wanted my synthetic gear oil in and it does not take a lot at all, my deck is the 54" fine cut. (color of oil looked like new)
-Now I also did the front axel, I drained both sides then filled, my manual states 5 Qts of oil, as I found out the hard way my front axel really only takes less than 3 Qts., yea I had to use a baster to suck out the extra (took some time, but it worked) I don't know if any of you did this and what your manual states but mine is wrong by 2 Qts. the old axel oil was dirty also glad I did it.

Any other BX 2370-1 owners notice this front axel fluid not taking 5 Qts.? I think mine takes what the BX1870-1 takes and specifies. I also think the book should state to change the front axel at 50 hours as mine was dark and it was extremely easy to do.

I got only 3qt in it when I changed, but eventually got about 4.5qt in. I believe it's been discussed that air gets trapped and by using the machine it works it's way out and you can get more fluid in.

I read air gets trapped but I did not think it was that much. I just had to add 1/2 Qt more.

When you're all done it will wind up taking pretty much what it's supposed to. Lots of posts and threads on this.

I agree and if it doesn't you probably didn't get all of the fluid out. If it's difficult to get it filled I would think it would also be more difficult to get it all removed.
Many posts concerning front drive low on fluid on BXs from dealers. I've owned many BXs along with many other Kubota models and always keep checking front for first few months to ensure front at proper level. Nature of the beast, settling or filling voids or whatever is happening. I've never changed the front fluid on any Kubota I've owned. Any I've checked always looked like it was just added on the dip stick. I also don't change fuel filters until there is a problem so only done it one time over 12 years and around 20 different Kubotas.
I do change engine oil and all engine oil and transmission/hyd filters at 50 hours with Kubota oil and filters from Barlows, local Kubota Dealer with never any issues.
Also change deck gear lubricant with gear oil at manual given hours, I think 50.
I say do what makes you feel good and satisfied that your giving your machine your best.

Just out of curiosity
1. when you change the hydraulic filter do you remove the metal protector or does the filter just make it, I removed mine but not sure if I needed to, thats why I changed the fuel filters.
2. Every 50 hours, the book does state longer intervals ? I know it is a personal preference, any technical reason to do it so often or something you read, I am just curious and prepping myself .
3. did you ever change the hydraulics and at what interval? Is there any bleeding of lines involved ?

1. when you change the hydraulic filter do you remove the metal protector or does the filter just make it, I removed mine but not sure if I needed to, thats why I changed the fuel filters.

I think the owners manual says first one is at 50 but I follow manual. Manuals have changed over the years and I have different models but I do when the owners manual says for the particular model.

This will start the great debate of doing it sooner because of cost of machine, etc., etc., I follow Kubota owners manual for the particular model and year, sleep good at night and feel good about doing it that way. No line bleeding except occasionally if I can't get the FEL hyd lines connected back on after removing FEL then I open a hyd line fitting to release the built up pressure so the fitting will hook back on
