Snowing pretty good, got about 3" so far, the wind hadn't gotten going yet, supposed to blow 35-45 mph with gusts over 60. 5"-8" before changing to rain, then back to snow, at least it's going to warm up and melt it. We still half of the snow that fell last Sunday, then again Wednesday night. Low 20's now but should rise into the 30's overnight.
Got my generator going today in case the wind knocks out power. I have a Powermate 6250, won't run the heat pump or oven with the needed items running, but with a little judicious breaker choosing, I can run my water heater, fridge, freezer, a burner, lights, TV and a couple of space heaters to go with my 40k btu propane heater.

Eric, looks like our gas has dropped in price but yours hasn't, what gives?
Has the Queen increased her stipend?

I'd much rather pay more at the pump than watch my retirement plan crash...

heavy rain and high winds here, over an inch and isn't slowing down.

FWIW, our gas in Texas has a total of $.43 cents of taxes IIRC. $.29 cents of it goes to the Feds.


Supposed to freeze tonight. Got the rest of my firewood in the house to burn. I guess I need to chop some more.

Good evening all. 30F this morning and windy, cloudy but clearing. Made to 45F but wind didn't slow down until after 5pm. Made shopping trip to Sherman, got new bike tire, looked a couple used bike but they really weren't what I was looking for so bought nothing else. Wife and I had lunch at Red Lobster, then went grocery shopping came home and ride.

It's only down to 40F here, but we ate supper at Sister's tonight, and I helped Mamma to her car, then into her house. I got so cold in those few minutes I didn't stop shivering until we got home and I changed into my flannel PJ's. Will not be staying at the camp tonight

Two weeks to wait ! That must be like Santa Claus arriving at the beginning of December and you being told you can't open your present until Christmas day. To make it worse the elves have gone and used semi-transparent gift wrap !

Good morning all.

Yesterday was one of those rare days when everything went to plan. As well as getting the fish in the pond, the sheep transfer went smoothly too. We have walked sheep on public roads before, although it is not a very common practice nowadays, so are always wary about drivers in case they try to push through instead of waiting for the sheep to pass.

22 going to 30 with 5 to 10 more inches of snow expected and 35 mph winds. Hard to tell how much snow we have so far since it has drifted so much, but not the 1 foot plus they predicted since it turned to sleet for a couple of hours last night. Plan to go out at 7am and collect the rain cylinder again to melt the snow for a precip measure. Measured once last night since it was filling so quickly.

Eric, congrats on the fish! Loved your story and memories. That's a narrow road and so many sheep...glad all made it safely.

David, congrats on the new flail. I'm with Eric...tough waiting it out that long before hooking it up.

Tested out the new generator yesterday on LP. Nice. But loud, and heavy. About 1,000 have lost power in our county, but we are still good...fingers crossed.

Watching the weather channel this morning. Those folks get so excited for a storm it hilarious. Is the storm living up to all the hype? It doesn't seem like it to me. No power would be no fun but I remember as a kid in the late 70's going without for a week and we lived. Somehow the pipes never froze, maybe Dad drained some of the lines. I remember hanging out in the neighbors finished basement for days on end, it was a blast and no school! Wind chill was figured differently then, I remember them saying it was 80 or 90 below wind chill. Now I think it might equate to 50 below. Drifts were so high and solid the hogs walked right over the fences. It was all fun and games till the barn burned down during the blizzard in 78/79. This storm doesn't look like much to me.

No worries about that! I've had one heart attack...no interest in another. Any snow clearing here is slow and easy.
But, the nor'easter hitting the mid-Atlantic area won't be this far north.

Tried to get to work. Never made it out of my development. All I did was push a big pile of snow in front of my car. This sucks

Frankly, trying to get out to work during this kind of weather, unless it's an absolute emergency, is foolishness and even dangerous.

Drew, your earlier post noted 5 people killed in NC during this storm...read an article on Fox News and sounds like most were going too fast for conditions. That's a big problem with people running 4WD vehicles but not understanding winter driving. 4WD might get you going, but doesn't help much if common sense isn't part of the driving skills.

Not much plan for today...dump run fix rear light on tractor,couple wheel barrow loads of wood in and just putter.
