Wow I've never heard of that one. Is there a way to protect against/treat for the condensation that can form in your tank? I've got a diesel tractor that sits a fair amount of time. How can you make sure its not getting water in the tank and how can you make sure if it does that algea doesn't form?

People talk about gas/diesel prices. No one ever considers that the calibration varies from place to place and fuel truck to fuel truck. Consider me suspicious, but I always seem to need more fuel when I go to the cheapest place! You Yanks are lucky. You didn't get hosed into that metric/litre BS! Makes a BIG difference when the prices go up, or when the pumps are not calibrated in your favour.

I don't question our measurements down here. But I am very reluctant to buy fuel from an unknown supplier. Try to buy all my diesel from the same supplier. Only take road trips couple times a year where that's not possible.

Treat your tank.

None of my equipment will get more than a couple months tank time with fuel. But I still get paranoid this time of year. I filled all my equipment last week. Some units, such as my M9540 will not get new fuel again til Spring. I treated it with PS white bottle. But it doesn't protect against algae. I'm confident that I filled it with non contaminated fuel free of moisture as I can get. You just kinda hope for the best.

No worries there . It is the idling in the winter . I have a honda side x side myself and it is trouble free . Also for chainsaws , weed eaters quads that don稚 get used much , I use avgas . It never gets weak or clogs carb or injectors . Cost very little more than regular .

I am interested in seeing pics and comments concerning your equipment line. I don't even know what most of that stuff is. Don't mean to hijack this thread though.

Maybe start a thread concerning equipment you have that might not be common to 95% of the users here??? Thanks in advance!!! :)

Thanks I'll search for it. Glad to have you onboard here. I'm always very interested in things that are uncommon in my World. :)

P.S. Googled "Bill Stecik". Took me right to his utube videos. Check it out. Very good videos and interesting equipment!!!! Thanks Bill. :)

Thats the first time I have ever heard someone suggest Avgas. There used to be a place not far away that sold it. My friend bought some for his Vett. I don't use enough gas to make the higher price an issue. Why does it not loose it's octane with time?

Please excuse the hijack, but check out Bill's utube video concerning his mulcher.........

I absolutely don't want one but I need one...... :)

Remember when my brother bought a low mileage Mercedes Diesel from an Estate... it had been parked in the garage for 3 years... with a cover.

He went through a case of filters and bottles of RedLine fuel biocide the first 6 weeks... eventually it cleared up and that was 25 years ago and he is still driving it...

I think it still might have lead as in 100LL avgas . I don’t profess to know for sure , but it works .

Algae in diesel, that's new to me. How long does that take for that to happen, must be longer then 4 months, that's the longest I've had diesel fuel on hand in a 6 gallon containers.
I get 18 gal. of fuel in 3 jugs at once when I diesel up, bring the jugs back home, then add a couple ounces of Power Service (PS) diesel additive to them, so far after 8 years, no algae, no jello and no problem starting my tractor and battery drill.

Heard about this more with heating oil tanks than diesel fuel supplies even though they are basically the same thing...Never had either but I don't store diesel. I only have 20 or 30 extra gallons laying around, not hundreds.

FPPF Killem is a great biocide product. Very reasonably priced and little goes a long way. I dose my tanks with the stuff a couple of times a year. Available at most major truck stops and commercial truck dealerships. The key to keeping condensation down is to keep tanks as full as possible during cold weather, be it gas or diesel. Especially since ATV/UTV/CUT tanks are vented and not closed, contained setups like automotive tanks.

FPPF Killem, I guess I better add this to the additive list, just think last week I didn't have a care in the world about algae in diesel fuel, one more thing to be thankful for today.
And it's get's even better, last night on the news, didn't quite catch it all but someone is proposing a bill to add more ethanol to gasoline in Maine, and according to some small engine repair shops, that's a big mistake, alcohol is not good on internal engine parts, gaskets etc. The companies that make fuel additives probably think it's a great idea. Diesel or gas UTV's both now require fuel additives and some of that stuff is not cheap, electric UTV's are sounding better now.

"REQUIRED?" I add NOTHING to my diesel, my neighbors don't either, nor do my friends or family, so it's hardly "required"!

AND I, along with all of the above, have NO problems with algae or gelling.... and I've been running diesels since 1982, TROUBLE FREE...

NOW, alcohol in the gas, that's another story!!

I'm living through the gas with alcohol as a California resident and going the best I can...

What I don't know is just how ultralow sulfur Diesel affects equipment that is 30, 40 or 50 years old... read a lot saying the loss of lubricity is a problem for injector pumps with solutions from adding commercial additives to simply adding 2-cycle oil to the Diesel.

Really don't know what to do other than I am having Injector Pump problems with older equipment...

Some people I know add a little ATF to the fuel for the benefit of the injector pump on older stuff...One dude couldn't get his early 90's Chevy diesel started no matter what, an old timer told him to do this and it fired up and ran perfectly after a few minutes. That was a year ago and it's still going strong. No personal experience though, just neighbors and such.

The sulfur content in ULSD is 50 ppm whereas the old stuff was 500 ppm. The sulfur gives it the smell (ever notice diesel doesn't smell like it used to) but more importantly it is the main component of how slick it is. Older injection pumps which were mechanical were either lubricated by the fuel or by engine lube oil. The loss of lubricity causes faster wear on the pump gears.

Modern high pressure systems do not have this concern since they are typically self contained and/or have their own lubrication systems.

In my old Dodge I could and would add any manner of clean oil to the tank with zero problems. Motor oil, cooking oil, ATF, etc all burn fine. The main advantage of the ATF is all of the detergents and additives in it to keep the transmission clean and shifting.

With all the choices in ATF it could be confusing... I have lots for old spec Ford and Dextron in the shop...

I use a little 2 stroke oil i all my diesel motors . The reason is that 2 stroke oil is made to burn.
