You should have 2 straps per bale, in case one fails. Or maybe 3 per bale in case two fail. Then put a steel cable net over the whole load. And a tight tarp to stop straw from blowing off into someone's eye.

You can never be too safe. Think of the children.

Quick tip: the top studs on the rear shocks are hard to get to with a wrench to get any real torque on them to bust them loose, especially while trying to keep the barrel from rotating (might not be an issue with a Cali truck), but there is an opening on either side frame rail where you can get a sawzall blade in along the crossmember. Even fumbling around, shouldn't take you more than half an hour to do both. Fronts were pretty easy too. Rockauto had decent prices when I did mine...

TBN members are the best!

Thanks

Crappy photo's taken off my dash cam in my semi on CA 60 freeway this past week .:confused3:

Snapshot 1 (10-28-2015 18-39).png

Snapshot 4 (10-28-2015 18-43).png

Snapshot 5 (10-28-2015 18-45).png

Picture 1 and 3 are of a pickup loaded way high with pallets . picture 2 is of a suv pulling a trailer loaded the same .
The pickup could get up to maybe 30 mph before he would start losing control , Suv could go a little faster before trailer started really pitching back and forth , taking the suv with .

And make sure you have a lead pilot car and a following car with blinking lights, "wide load" signs, etc. Also, make sure you wear a safety vest, hard hat, steel toe boots and eye protection when loading. :D

Or you can go commando like I do and put a block behind the back two. But then I max out a 10 mph and go a few hundred feet on a seldom traveled road. 10,000 bales later, never lost one.

Shouldn't be hard to track down the Connecticut owner of this pickup...

I got it on the second cup after I posted.
To much candy last night and the hour extra sleep didn't help i guess.

I am awake now.

It has a barcode on it. Would that be a "of the shelf" unit. If so how would that pass as a hitch.
I don't even see where it was modified, if it was.
Stranger things have passed regulations.

Al

It was off the shelf once upon a time. There are holes on the side where they should be. Someone must have modified for a specific purpose. Maybe they needed a drop hitch and didn't think it was worth putting a receiver hitch on the truck.

It was made by someone with a specific need and not enough knowledge of mechanics and safety to make safe choices. I would think this would merit a traffic stop for safety.

Yeah, but first the manufacturer should be tracked down and put out of business.

The part is a simple trailer hitch that would normally slide into the 2" receiver mounted to the vehicle.

The Ball is mounted to the square part that slides into the receiver...

The part bolted to the bumper is where the ball is supposed to be mounted.

Someone took an off the shelf part and reversed it to achieve a "Drop" hitch...
