Well I did it. Yesterday afternoon I talked to Rick at EA and ordered the Wicked Root Grapple for Compact Tractors - double lid, 60" (ETA-WRG-CMP60). With any luck I will have it in a couple weeks and the fun will begin. Actually the fun will begin earlier as I know nothing about hydraulic hoses - expect a "Help me with grapple hydraulic hoses" thread!

Thank you for your replies and advice!

We bought a Titan puller a few months ago and really like it to go along with our grapple. This fall we will have it on our M8540 and a grapple on our L5740 to carry them to a burn pile.

Sounds like a productive setup!
I cut off the root ball because they take too long to burn.

What brand is your tree puller?

The large Bradco "Jawz." EA sells them be I got it considerably cheaper from my local dealer. Still not inexpensive though. Works great to place large rocks too.

Nice! You will love it. Tractor hydraulics is not rocket science.

Thanks Luke. Do both jaws move?

Yes they do. A feature I find very beneficial. Also big greasable pivot pins. Paladin Manufacturing owns Bradco.
I have a thread I think called "bradco jawz" on TBN you can search for with pictures.

We have a lot of yaupon around base of oak trees. Do you think the Bradco can hold onto about 1" trunks or smaller?

Thanks

Yes I do. I use it to pull blackberry and bitterroot vines all the time. The jaw undulations meet perfectly and are maybe 1.5" thick so it tends compress small stuff instead of shearing or pinching it in half.

Yeah root balls are a bear to burn. For the foreseeable future my "ground crew" is building a house or we would probably cut the root ball off. We will not try a complete burn as we have lots of washouts to dump the remains in after the fire dies out and gets rained on a few times.

Thanks for the help guys! The grapple arrived at the local FedEx terminal this last weekend and I picked it up last night. I had to see what it looked like on the tractor so I dropped the bucket and put on the new toy, I mean tool.... No hydraulics hooked up yet, they arrive tomorrow from Discount Hydraulic Hose. I have the brush guard off right now, adding some expanded metal to it. Will post pics in a different thread when I finish it. By the way, having a hoist is a handy thing! With any luck at all I will be up and running this weekend! It is the Everything Attachments 60" dual lid

Looks great and you will be very happy to have it. My grapple is my most used attachment. Have an 84" Blue Diamond grapple on my New Holland TL100A and looking at the new EA 55" Wicked Utility Grapple for my LS.

Here's how I modified my XR4046HC grill guard. Feel free to copy anything you like.

I added a padeye and install a clevis for tie down chain when I trailer the tractor. I put a clevis on drawbar also so no chains touch the tractor.

What are the 2 crossbars on the guard made of? Are they bolted on?

Cross bars are just pipe I had around. Tack welded a nut onto one side of a fender washer, then welded washer to each end of pipe with nut to inside of the pipe. Bolts attach to pipes thru the slots in sides of the guard.
