Whaaaa? Robert, hope you are able to resolve your issues.

Progress on my eMax 22... up to 46 hours on it now. Not a bit of a problem. Couldn't do much snow plowing using the rear blade since we didn't get much snow this season, actually only once. FEL has been really handy, I call it my diesel powered wheel barrow, although it is much more than that. Got clamp-on bucket forks for the FEL and they have been great for moving things around, like logs and large downed branches. Mowed pastures and some rough lawn with a 5' finish mower many times last summer and fall, handled that with no problems at all. Fuel use is more than I expected, but not much more. Takes about 5 gallons to mow 6 acres of pasture. My Ford Ns sip gasoline by comparison with bush hog type mower over the same ground. Did an oopsie with it last summer... forgot to lower the ROPS and went into the barn to retreive one of our old llamas that had died. Grazed it as I went in, and knocked a door header beam out at one end as I backed out. It was actually badly rotted so it had to be replaced. Not used to a tractor with a ROPS so one thing I have to remember, watch the height.

Overall very pleased with the eMax 22.

Let me interpret: "I love my Mahindra, best tractor ever, and I'm sorry for saying anything bad about Mahindra." :) That's the way I read this anyway.

Mahindra eMax 22 maintenance questions: Doing the 150-hour myself. 1. Changing the engine oil and filter, front axle and HST fluid is fairly easy until you get to . . . the frickin HST filter. Can't really get at it from below without disconnecting what appears to be a hydraulic hose and perhaps some linkage. Dealer says they have a little guy who can reach up there - must have it on a rack and a special filter wrench. One post said take the middle floor cover off, but on mine the height control for the MMM prevents this. Going either way will involve some disassembly that might lead to anything from lost HST fluid to a trip to the dealer. Any success changing this HST filter out there - for people with lower mid-range mechanical skills? 2. Also, Mahindra dealer emphatically says don't use 303 grade HST fluid, says use 606 grade, which no one has heard of (not even JD parts counter guy), so I bought the Mahindra fluid - $80 for 5 gal - any alternative at TSC/Orscheln/Farm King that meet the same spec?

By the way, after three months and 150 hours of mowing, excavating, logging and running a small watermelon farm, I am still convinced this was the best choice for my 30-acre spread. Awesome little subcompact.

Not sure reeve but have to do mine soon, the 50 hr. is due. I'll post back when/if I get it done. I do have a variety of filter wrenches but I too wondered about getting it past that hose.

Hey reevesranch,

When I did my 50 hour service I too struggled a bit with the hst filter, the trick is to pull the plastic drive shaft tunnel (hump on the foot deck) and then unbolt the drive shaft (no big deal one bolt to remove). This allows you to get the fan out of the way. Also don't forget the suction screen, iirc the manual states it should be replaced but gives no location or instructions. It can be simply cleaned and after break-in it will likely have collected some metal. It's located on the right side of the transmission, big hex bolt that unscrews.

I just decided to have the dealer do it al. much easier and they have the space and equipment to do it all. mine is coming up in another 4 hrs. i also will so the complete 50 and 100 hr. changes due to the cost of transport to the dealer and back - a long way away. no longer have a truck and hitch to borrow a friend's trailer. i realize more $ but i believe it is worth it.

I have sort of an issue deciding which hex bolt or bolts to remove to drain the transmission, I see one on each side on the lower side of some "humps" that would be the lowest part of the unit and one on the right side (as viewed from above) on the lower front side the trans. The manual is no help at all, it shows one in the center of the bottom side where there is just smooth metal on mine, and in another place shows three drains in a drawing. Any help here?

I can see where removing the center cover will help. I assume that once the drive shaft is unbolted it will slide toward the front, or not (?). I'm going to try to take the filter out from below, I found a filter wrench in my stash of them that will work on it, just to see if it can be done.

Update on changing the hydro filter on the eMax 22... only way I could get to it with the filter wrench I had was to remove the hydraulic line near it, was easy to come off, filter not so much. Hopefully I didn't put the new one on as tight as the factory did the old one! Had I remove the line at first it would have been a 10 minute job. Couldn't get to it from above even with the center cover off and driveshaft moved out of the way. Side benefit in taking the driveshaft/fan off was I could remove the grass that had wrapped itself around the shaft from mowing.

bought one, not impressed at all. First off when you use the belly mower it kicks up a lot of clippings which get sucked into the engine compartment and then it over heats and shuts down. The engineering is not so hot either have replaced 400.00 worth of hoses due to moving parts rubbing on them. Today the seat mount cracked! I have a smaller JD and put that thing through **** and it still goes strong. I keep reading about Mahindra and needed some of the features but also wanted to save 6k over a like model deere, should have stepped up and bought the deere. Of course I'm upset with myself right now because of the problems, but come on! a seat mount?

I think there is a baffle for that mower deck to prevent that. Check with you dealer.

Time will tell if I made the right, I.e. Cheapskate Choice) with my Max28. Only have 60 hours on it.

Just noticed that you have the Max 28 - might be quite different from the eMax 22/25 subcompact that this thread is about. Although, the pivot rod in my seat mount did where through the cotter pin and came out (easy fix), and I removed the blow-out preventer on my mower deck after tearing it up on a stump - was fine when grass was wet but now that it's dry blows dust and debris. Can't find any wear on my hoses after 170 hours.

I have had my Max 28XL Shuttle for over a year now. I have probably abused it far worse than it was designed to take. I have been clearing land that has a lot of small trees (pulling up cedar trees by the roots with a large "Brush Grubber") and clearing heavy undergrowth. So far other than a few dents in the fenders, it has been a trooper. I run over heavy brush with the bush hog and it takes it like a champ. So far I could not be happier with my choice.
