Kubota B2650 and B3350 info and hints

My tractor was a "take back" by kubota because of snow clogging and some dpf issues. My dealer said that all of the issues had been fixed. Not sure of the specifics but when I got it it had 64 hours. As I mentioned before, it regened at 84.9.
I figured that I can live with it being a used machine with a new tractor warranty for the many thousand dollar discount I got. Time will tell.

SANDYC.....any idea what the "SNOW CLOGGING" issues were and what the fix was?

   / Kubota B2650 and B3350 info and hints #183
I was told that the very fine powdery snow was able to be drawn into the outside air filter and choke the engine off. As mentioned before, my dealer says to have an extra filter so you can thaw the frozen one if needed. I am also getting an additional air intake "snorkel" and will be trimming/shortening it so I can then turn the air intake down toward the engine behind the rad and maybe eliminate this issue. should reduce the snow thing....I think. Anyways, for $27 plus shipping it is worth the effort. The part number is 6C430-58250 and is available from Messicks or the Kubota Parts Depot in New Hampshire.

Kanook,

I've read that others have located the intake behind the radiator as sandyc's dealer suggested. Just remember to move it back in the summer, especially when brush mowing!

Thanks Bumper ,

I did drop mine a little below the radiator and it worked fine for me , no snow problems . Your reminder inspired me to put it back which I forgot about doing .

You guys have any pics of the intake positions?

   / Kubota B2650 and B3350 info and hints #188
Try as I might, there is no way that the intake for the 3350 can be adjusted so that it is behind the rad. Hence my ordering of a new snorkel that I can cut/trim so that it draws warm and hopefully non-snowy air from behind the rad. As soon as I get that done I will post some pics. No rush now but I might as well get prepared for this coming winter....It is 44 here right now so maybe I'll need it sooner than later!

Sandy,

You could just remove the intake tube at the air cleaner - - that might be good enough as there's a foam seal on the underside of the hood. The intake on the air cleaner would then be offset from that and would mostly get air that comes through the radiator. Optionally, you could fashion a simple deflector of either aluminum flashing or a suitable piece of plastic cut from a milk jug to replace the stock "snorkel" so it sucks in air a little lower down.

Good ideas. Think I'll give these a try. Thanks for the info

Well, DUH!!

I read the destructions and knew to go to idle before engaging the PTO on my B3350. What I didn't realize is that the *speed* with which the PTO handle is lowered also affects the way the clutch operates. If you just dump the handle down, as I was doing, the engagement is abrupt and this is rather apparent when using a rear brush cutter. Lower the handle a bit more gently and things smooth out significantly, just like the clutch on a manual tranny.

I have no idea why sometimes the simplest things escape me :c)

Can I use "Red" off road diesel with the B3350. I want to make sure not to add any issues to the regin process.

I am thinking that as long as it is low sulfur you should be OK

You should be just fine as the red color is just a dye in the same exact fuel .

I'm pretty sure, at least in the USA, that "low sulfur" has been replaced with "ultra low sulfur" which is 15 ppm (parts per million) or less for both road and off road use. My B3350 specs ultra low sulfur only.

Thanks for the replies. I have a bulk tank of red so we will see what happens. My wife mowed yesterday and I will have to check the hour meter but it sure likes Diesel. Also hydraulics oil when your dealer doesn't tighten the fittings.

Finally got around to checking the hydraulic pressure on my B3350. The WSM says it should be 2400 to 2450 psi. Mine was set at 2050. No wonder the BH77 backhoe was a little anemic. Removed the loader relief valve and it had three shim washers totaling 3.21 mm thickness. I added two washers to add 1.90 mm and that raised the pressure to 2500 psi (close enough for gauge error). While I was at it, I put the test gauge on the power beyond and checked the pressure while operating the hoe, also 2500 psi now, so the loader relief valves must be set higher than that. Anyway, looking forward to removing some tree stumps, should work a lot better now.

Been quite.

I was out mowing a couple of acres with brush cutter with air conditioner on. The cab started to get warmer. Back in the tractor shed I measured the output of the AC at only 12 degrees below ambient. I had previously cleaned the screens and the radiators "looked" clean. However, upon closer inspection, I found the AC radiator clogged up completely in the area behind the battery. The material clogging the radiator was light gray and not visible unless the battery was swung out of the way and a light shone behind (between) the radiators. I could swing the battery far enough out without removing battery terminals, so this area is going to get better cleaned in the future. I plan on making a side squirting water spray wand to get in there.

This is a piss poor design feature. I was thinking of adding a thermostatically controlled fan on the front of the AC radiator, as there is no shroud to help pull air through this directly. Can't find a fan thin enough and there is very little room to fabricate a bracket to position an aux fan. The shroud would also be a poor idea as it would restrict flow into the main radiator from the sides etc. I'm still noodling on all this, but I really would like to add a fan to improve AC efficiency.

One possibility is to make more room for the fan by switching to a physically smaller battery - - a LiFePO4 may well work without giving much up in battery capacity.
