Although I think one should consider the sale of GE's appliance division, you should also question whether a large corporation like Eletrolux would spend 3 billion on a division and then not service and stand behind their product?

I have to open the freezer door to get a scoop of ice from the bin (we keep a big scoop in there) and you have to open the lower (refrigerator) door to get to the cold filtered water dispenser. My wife uses that; I never do. I get a scoop of ice in my glass, then get the water at the sink.



Yep, but Sears provides the warranty and/or service.

I've lost track of Sears but I thought they were in serious revenue trouble a while back. We have a Sears Hometown store here which is a franchise I believe. They have lawn & garden equipment, tools, and appliances on display for sale. They will order anything Sears sells.

Just want to add that just because the ice and water is in the door doesn't mean that the ice maker is in the door. Many have the ice maker in the upper left corner of the fridge and just sent the ice down a chute to the dispenser. The LG has the ice maker in the door but still has room for water bottles and cans in there as well.

Lastly, be sure the manufacturers have warranty guys in your area. I've heard Samsung is scarce in some rural areas but I'm sure they all can have issues.

This advise is worth what you paid for it. ;D

Well, we bought a Samsung, stainless steel with french doors which is pretty much opposite of our beginning requirements. Gets delivered tomorrow.
My wife changed to stainless because she saw a double oven stove she really liked, and it only came in stainless. This is going to get really expensive, because now I will probably also have to replace the dishwasher also... Didn't buy the stove yet. The fridge might be a tight fit under the cabinet, but if it is too tight I will have to take the cabinet down and trip a little off the bottom.

called to find out my delivery time, and they now say tomorrow. That was the original day they said, but they said they might be able to deliver today, and I got a call last night that I thought they said today, but that message got erased. Oh well, the old one is ready to move out. I disconnected the water line already. The big job was removing all the magnets. The thing was covered. I threw a lot of them away. Some were there since my youngest was born, and he's 16 now.. Also found my punch list of items I needed to complete on my new house, from 1997.

The big job was removing all the magnets. The thing was covered. I threw a lot of them away. Some were there since my youngest was born, and he's 16 now..

Congrats on the new frig, FYI magnets will not stick to stainless steel.

Not all "stainless" is the same. Depending on how it's heat treated, stainless can end up magnetic or non-magnetic. Many refrigerators are "stainless look". I'm looking at a GE stainless refrigerator right now that's covered with magnets.

Lowes. Free delivery / install and took the old one away. And $100 less than a competitor price who also charge $80 delivery on top of the price.

Interesting how the installers carry it in with a wide strap under it.

Ice maker is slow at making ice, which is one of the compaints people had about it.

I was up in Washington and the refrigerator died...

Happened to be in Lowes and and while there stopped in the appliance department...

Found one that was too large... the older sale person couldn't have been more helpful... said he knows exactly what I'm looking for and as we talk says he has one in the warehouse... this is Saturday afternoon... told him I was driving back to California Sunday so it would not do any good...

He texts someone and says I can have it delivered at no charge before 10:30 am Sunday... that kind of stopped me.... then I said that would work but by noon I would be gone... he said not a problem.

Anyway, I ordered it and it was just as he said... even hauled away an old Microwave for me...

I had a little better luck than that with a used refrigerator. My wife and I bought our first house; a very small 18 year old 3 bedroom, one bath, one car garage in 1968. We had very little money, but I had worked an estate sale for a guy who owned a furniture store; new, used, antique, and junk. So we picked out what we could afford, and that included a GE refrigerator that started life as a white one, which was the most common in those days, but then someone had palnted it PINK! And not a real great paint job, at that.:laughing: The guy said he'd guarantee it 90 days. Well, after a year, I checked and found a warehouse that had new door gaskets, so I bought a set of new door gaskets, and before installing them, I painted it; coppertone (how many remember when coppertone appliances were in vogue?). When I bought the door gaskets, I asked the guy if he could tell how old that refrigerator was from the model and serial numbers and he said it was a 1946 model so only 22 years old when we got it. After a couple of promotions we bought a NEW house in 1972 and a NEW Penncrest refrigerator, but kept the old GE for additional storage in the garage. It was still working just fine when I gave it away about 1977.

Now perfectly good appliances are simply tossed because they might go out or not as energy efficient as the new ones "Claim" to be...
