Good morning!!!!

Glad you Virginians got some rain. Now we just need for California to get filled up.
Nice days here, humidity and temps climbing each day up to about 90 each and then cooling off in the evening.
Hurricane expected to hit Cabo San Lucas and then scatter, possibly bringing rain about 7-10 days out.
Have a blessed day all.

Good morning! 66˚ heading to the 90˚s, not a cloud in the sky.

Today is the opening day of Water Volleyball. It was delayed this year because of all the rain - none of us old geezers like cold water. Water temp was 86˚ yesterday afternoon, should be the same today. I have left half of the sail shades off the pool so the sun can warm the dark liner.

I need to check the air pressure in the 30 balls and put up the net!

The ground is a wet sponge under the top layer of dry sand so no tractor work for a while. I bet I lost a few gophers in the flood.

Everyone that is mowing fields watch out for new born fawns.

Good morning all, 48F heading to a nice 75F. Got mowing and trimming done last night and started trimming the bushes and plants around the house.

62F now. Sunshine and a few afternoon clouds today. High near 85F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.

jerrybob, sounds like hunter ed has come a long way in 40 years. When I took it, we sat through a morning of lectures and slides, got a pamphlet, and we were on our way.

Thomas, when I was picking the bed up off the RTV I used a fork attachment on the tractor FEL. As I was positioning the forks under the bed, I almost stuck my hand into a 3" wasp nest next to one of the forks. When I hooked up the forks I'd noticed a wasp (kind of hard to miss, as it was black with bright yellow stripes) buzzing around, but didn't give it much thought as they're pretty common. But finding the nest a foot from my nose sure got my attention, especially when I saw it crawling with wasps! Ran inside and snagged a can of Raid wasp & hornet killer, and boy did it do the job! One good squirt and the wasps were dropping to the ground. Not a single one got airborne or tried to attack. Big difference compared to other brands I've tried, as usually it's a shoot and run affair!:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Buppies, good to see you and the rest of the Virginia contingent finally getting some rain. Doing paperwork is always a shame, but it's even worse when it has to be done on a sunny day.

Kyle, Northern California might have a shower or two between now and October, but it won't amount to more than a drop in the bucket. The media's been making a big deal about the drought already, but wait 'till September when all the reservoirs are drained and there's still no rain in sight. Wanna know what's controlling reservoir releases now? The salmon migration! Yep, there are laws on the books that require certain flow rates and temperatures be maintained in the streams that are fed by the reservoirs, and that's what water managers are tied to. Not water demand!?! Now I love salmon as much as the next guy, but I love flushing the toilet, watering plants, and drinking water a whole lot more. I think this state is about to learn a hard lesson in water management, where city folks are going to be standing in line to get a five gallon jerry can filled just so they can brush their teeth in the morning, all while rice and cotton farmers continue to flood irrigate their fields. Since there are way more city folks than farmers, I'm guessin' there will be some radical changes made to the water rights system now in place. That or there will be water riots in the street.

I'd noticed that all the welding I'd been doing on the RTV bed had bowed the front to the point where it was catching on a plastic cab molding when I dumped the bed, so yesterday I figured I'd better do something about it before I painted it. Years ago I'd purchased a "pull together" cylinder for my ancient Harbor Freight porta power, but had never used it for anything. It was on sale, and I figured sooner or later something like that would come in handy, and today was the day. Got out a piece of 3" I beam to go across the open end of the bed, chained one hook on the cylinder to it, then dropped the other hook over the lip of the bed in the center. I put a piece of 1/4" plate under the hook to spread the load and started pumping. Took out about half the bend on the first try, then got the rest of it with one more. The hook left a little wowie in the lip, but nothing to get excited about.

The painting went better than I thought it would, as I'd fought the wind just trying to get the masking paper taped into place. The wind died down enough to get it done, but it was still strong enough to dowse both me and the gun in orange paint when I tried to shoot upwind. And I had a little trouble doing the inside walls of the bed, as it was difficult to reach over and in and not get into the wet paint on the outside. It was also hard to see how much paint was going on. So I was surprised when it all came out nice and shiny with no obvious dry spots or runs. I was also surprised with how quickly it dried. Less than an hour 'till it was touch dry, but I resisted the urge to put the bed back onto the RTV. That'll come tomorrow, as I'll be running errands in town for most of today (sigh).

With the bed off, I'm tempted to run it down to one of those spray on bed liner outfits. Anybody ever use one? Or the paint on coatings offered by the mail order companies or Harbor Freight?

Happy Hump Day everyone!

62 this morning and headed to 81 today. Have to move a bull and then maybe move a hay baler. But first I have a few repairs to finish in the chicken coops. Got a call yesterday from a friend saying he wasn't going to be using his pickup fuel tank and it was empty. So I went and got it and brought in enough fuel to get me through hay season. 100 gallons. I need to do some fuel tank rearranging so I didn't want to fill up. I can't do that till the birds leave.

70.9F and sunny @ 12:30 ...

Got most of the old adhesive cleaned off the soles of the Muck boots last night ... probably get them glued together tonight ... need to figure out some way to clamp the soles to the uppers. Might just tie them with some cord, although a plastic bag filled with sand in the uppers could work well too.

Think I'll at least throw the forks on and move those big logs ... if not get some splitting done as well.

Wife just called and said U.B. is coming down with his riding mower @ 13:00 to mow around the house ... since the Simplicity is currently out of commission.

Too much to do ... not enough of me ... lol ...

How do you do that? Conventional waterbed?
The cells are long, 4 1/2" diameter individual cylinders or tubes ... bed has about 10 or so of them that set in a foam "frame" ... then a padded foam cover slips over top of the cells and the "frame" they sit in. Called a "soft-side" waterbed I believe.

Gonna enjoy this sunshine because it looks like Sunday the 7th we may have some more storms.

4.07 inches of rain today, yikes. Street drains can't handle that and once again everything out front flooded.
An APB has been issued for one missing turtle...
well those roses out front will stay well watered for the next week or two anyway.

I think a BOLO would be more important on the turtle, seeing as it is a turtle and not a person??? I wish we had more rain, it seems it is either to much or never enough. I fall in the latter although yesterdays rain really perked up the pastures.

Dang Drew, that is a lot of water. Not sure if your drainage upgrades are going to be enough.

   / Good morning!!!! #34,597
My goodness you got dumped on Drew! That good news is that water will never freeze. Silver lining in your clouds.

I wouldn't worry about it. Once the street drains catch up it will go away. If the street drains/ditches are full there is no where to send the water in any case.

After a late start this morning I spent the day trimming stump sprouts, saplings and seedlings along the lanes. The FS-250 with the brush blade does a good job. I saved about two dozen red oak seedlings, trimmed around them nicely to make it easy for the deer to find them.

There is a doe hanging around the house clearing in daylight, no doubt she has a fawn parked nearby.

54F now. Made it to 59F today but the air dried out nicely. Tomorrow could be a perfect day; 72F & partly cloudy. I don't think it will do much for the no show green beans I planted though. :D

Finally a dry day!
Mowed the front lawn when I got home...must have been an average height of around 7". Looks like a hayfield with all the windrows.
I'll do some tomorrow and finish up Friday.
My wheeled string trimmer (an old DR machine) won't start...going to a friend's place Saturday to see if he can get it working...he's retired and has the time...I don't.
