Thoughts on mounting a 2500b winch on BX?

What others have said is correct. The only thing I can add is that I put a 2200 lb. winch on my BX2200. :confused3: It was a fun project. But of no practical use. For one thing the cable was to short to be useful. And when I needed to tow myself out it wasn't strong enough. I burned out the remote control and was happy to give the winch to my brother in Law.

"If you knew the half it you surely wouldn't feel sorry for me. Just spent last weekend in Margaret River near Perth. Work is getting in the way!"

Hi DE,

If you have to be somewhere on business, it certainly sounds like you are in the right place and taking the right approach!

Fill those memory banks today while you still can and then when you don't have any other choice, you can sit back and enjoy them.

I have a pile of downed junk maples, and other junk brush that I need to pull out of an area that I can't reach. I am guessing this will be big enough winch. It sure is cheap enough and worth a try :D
Sounds like you need to buy some 3/8" or 1/2" wire rope. Roll some eyes in each end, and buy a few snatch blocks. Then use some creative rigging! It's been years since I put in a logger's splice. The company I use to work for put a stop to us making our own rigging out on the derricks. Anchor wires were OK, but not for overhead lifting.

Yep... the grape juice (especially the cab) was quite good! :D

My thoughts are travel hard when you can (business) and piggy back fun... and then when you retire I can fiddle and hopefully remember the stories!

Thanks SA... most of the stuff is not very big (you know the stuff I am sure). I have some short wire rope but will add to my collection. Maybe I will make my own ends this time!

If you roll the eyes, make an extra long tail past the eye, and use electrical tape instead of wire rope clamps. When we stacked the anchors for the replacement LVM floating bridge in Lake Washington. The first section set on the lake bottom we rolled eyes in wire rope with electrical tape. Instead of using a shackle we cut one strand out of the wire rope, and rolled a molly. We used these wire ropes for the next section of anchor to follow down on top the the previous section. When all five sections were set, we used endless chains wrapped around the wire rope, and backed the barge up to break the molly. That never happened! We always broke the wire rope!

I'm too late to be of assistance to DragonEggs, but this winch isn't gonna recover a BX.

I have one (similar) on my quad primarily for lifting the plow and it's worked two seasons fine. It produces enough pull to break the cable (after repeated uses). I haven't used it to pull the quad out of stuck yet but figure it'd do OK. It replaced a Warn ATV 2500lb model. That unit had a heavier cable and lasted 8 years.

I had considered rigging one to my boompole to make a mini-crane but still sitting on that idea.

If dragoneggs Harbor Freight winch won't pull his tractor out of a mud hole. That's OK, I know of 2 or 3 places in Seattle who will gladly rent him one like this. Minimum of 17-tons of single line pull. :D

What would you think about mounting a trailer hitch receiver under the front bumper, and under the hitch in the back of the tractor. Build a winch mounting stinger, then you could have a winch in the front, or back of your tractor.
Or maybe install a pintle hitch on the counterweight, and have a hole in the winch mounting plate that would pin to the pintle hitch.

I have both of my winches setup to go in a receiver hitch too.

Here is what he needs to make for the front. [url]http://fabworksoem.com/kubota_bxb2_3.php

Well I took the time to test the Standard Chain Come-Along and easily exceeded the working load limit of 2750 pounds! JE Shaffer Co.
