Well ... they do have these "Key Finder" things that you attach to your car keys.
I've often wondered how those would work because they must require some sort of a button to push to activate the key finder and inevitably that would be lost too!
Maybe I could get a deal on a thousand of those and hook one to everything I don't want to search for.

You just use one of the key finder things on the push button. Simple! :D

I think I read a humor piece once that said it was genetics.

Back in the cave man days, men were the hunters, so they got good at spotting moving objects. Women were the fruit and berry gatherers so they got good a finding static objects.

So it's really not my fault when I can't find my hammer

Nice to hear that I'm not the only one with this problem. I'm continually having tools stolen. They of course, turn up a few days later in places that I'd never suspect.
Just happened to me yesterday.
SWMBO got home from getting a new battery put in our Honda Civic and exclaims "Someone stole the insurance card from our Civic!".
We are rural, and their are very few minor thefts in the area and often I leave the car unlocked.
She explained she had taken the card with her to get a new license tag a few days ago. The next day she KNEW she had put it back in the glove box of the Civic.
By the time she told me she had spent about about 30 minutes looking for it.

I reminded her she had gotten in the Civic, found it wouldn't turn over, and switched to the VW and gone to get the tags.

No! SHE HAD PUT IT IN THE CIVIC's GLOVEBOX (repeated about 5 times). It was STOLEN and I (the husband who is always at fault) HAD LEFT THE CAR UNLOCKED!!

Sure enough, she had carried it over to the VW AND PUT IT IN THE VW's GLOVE BOX.

I had a thought in my head but before I could post it here I lost it.

Years ago a former SO lost her keys at the grocery store. She talked to the clerk that checked out her groceries, the manager, and dragged me up and down every isle looking for them. Walked from store to car several times, no luck. Fortunately the car doors were left open, so after searching several hours at least we had a place to sit and rest for a moment. As I looked through the windshield out over the parking lot, I found the keys, sitting on the dash in front of the steering wheel!

This was only one of many such incidents that occurred each day with this lady, most usually blamed on someone stealing something or on me moving it. I thought I was absent minded, but this one took the cake!

There's a reason I have 12 tape measures... several hammers... and so on. If you can't find a tool, then you ain't got one... I buy another one so I have it!

Just started with reading glasses... bought 4 pair to start with... got one left. Best is when I "find them" on my head!
My neighbors wife told this one on him. He was talking on his cell to an associated and the guy asked if he got the photo he sent. He said no and he had been on the computer all day. The guy said I sent it to your phone. The neighbor began looking around for his phone all the time telling the guy he couldn't find his phone. Finally the wife had to tell him that he was talking on it.

It is surely aggravating to have something in your hand, never go more than a few feet but cant find where you put it. I have a couple of magnetic trays that all screws go into when I am working on something. This keeps them from wandering off but then the larger stuff must have hidden legs because I can find them (sometimes) many feet from where I was working. Afterwards I think, "I don't remember taking this in here with me."

I few weeks ago, I became aware of a missing battery charger. I searched my shop, even went to my neighbors and searched his place plus my brother in law's shop to no avail. I gave up thinking perhaps someone stole it from my shop although nothing has ever been bothered in there by anything other than a cat or chicken. A week or so goes by and then one day I walked into my boat / lawnmower storage area which I had thoroughly searched several times a few weeks ago and low and behold there right on a shelf sat my battery charger. NOW I know that I looked there and it wasn't there, for sure it wasn't. Those pesky little people (you know the ones that live with us but we cant see them) have been at it again.

I know I must be getting old. . .

Half the time, I can't remember to zip my pants. :confused3:

All i have to do is put something in a "Safe place" so i'll know where it is. That is almost a guarantee I will never see it again.

Same here, I must have a dozen or more Safe Places and they work well, anything I put in them is safe from even me finding it again.

Oh, yeah. It could be worse. You could have swallowed the keys!

But you only have to really start worrying when you can't find what's inside anymore...

Or when you can't see your zipper anymore to zip it other than in a mirror

No, the battery charger just went into invisible stealth mode. Happens all the time.

Times a thousand. That works every time.

Or if you lose something. The best thing to do is just stop looking for it. The thing your looking for will usually show up when your not looking for it. lol

I misplaced a hammer last night while removing some plaster and lath boards in the bathroom of the house I'm remodeling.

I searched everywhere for that hammer last night. Well after about 5 minutes of searching for the hammer I gave up and went to my truck and got my other hammer.

Well when I walked back into the bathroom to remove some more lath and plaster. I noticed the hammer I lost was sitting on the floor next to the toilet. lol And I had looked right in that spot. How I didn't notice it. I'm not sure. lol

I found the hammer I lost after going out and getting the other one.

Your lucky, had I walked out to the barn to get another hammer, I would have been standing in the barn try to remember why I came out to the barn.

Sometimes I get a wrong image in my mind of what I'm searching for looks like, and when the real item doesn't match that image I don't find it. For example, if I'm looking for a red handled screwdriver, and the missing one actually has a wooden handle, I don't see it. I have to step back and question myself about what I'm really looking for, and be open to the possibility that the thing looks different than I expect...

I've thought at times maybe, at my age, I was losing my mind. But it's encouraging to hear that many of you have the same problems I have.

Not so sure, Bird. At this point I'm convinced I HAVE lost my mind, or at least some of it!
