I'll run that test tomorrow. So explain to me what my expectations should be Rick. I value your opinion on this.

I don't think this tractor has had the gears changed. I base that on the fact that you can't buy variables. Only one ratio offered.

I think this tractor has had the rear wheel/tires changed from some other model. I think it's got 2wd rear wheels on a 4wd tractor. CNH's website offers 38" rear wheels. But they don't clarify if 2wd or 4wd.

I think this was done when the original owner traded it. He swapped tires/wheels to get rid of junk tires and keep newer tires that had been installed on the 3910. No consideration of size was taken. I think he might have put 4 new tires on the tractor, then later traded it and didn't want to lose the newer tires?? :confused3:

One revolution of the rear axle should yield 1 to 1.05 revolutions of the front. The front differential SHOULD be a limited slip type. You should not be able to turn one front tire (4WD disengaged) independently of the other.

It's definitely a limit slip. I'll test the revolutions later today.

I have a FWD Ford 3910 that had a full protection system built. I have removed it all and would be happy to sell it to someone that could use it. The front bumper can be mounted by itself and is great to protect the tractor. The tractor was used by the Sun Oil Pipeline group to brush hog right-of-ways and the cage was for brush protection.

Robert, you are the man I've been looking for!!!! I saw your pics in reviews but couldn't figure out how to get ahold of you.

I need a favor. Big favor. I need to know what size rear tires/wheels you are running??? I'm assuming 14.9x28?? I appreciate any response you can give me. My tractor has had the rears swapped out to 38". It pushes the front more than it should with that tall of tire combination.

Thanks for posting on here, I love your tractor cage!!!

Oh, and welcome to TBN. :)

Richard, The tires on the back are 14.9x28 and the front tires are 9.5x24. You can see the size on the tire if you zoom into the attached picture:

Thank you very much for the info. I had looked at the tractordata.com stuff and was pretty sure I needed 14.9x28". That's what I'll look for.

If you were closer I'd help ya sell your cage. Looks strong enough for sure!!!!

I'd like to see you post a thread about your transmission rebuild?? Would be interested to hear that story!! :)

Oh, sorry, one more thing, are the centers of your rear wheels the same size as the axle end or are they a loose fit?? The axle ends on these tractors are 5.5". I can find wheels everywhere with 6" center hole (pilot hole) but can't find any with 5.5".

Thanks again for your help Bob. I really appreciate it.

Thanks Bob. Thanks for calling the other day too. We had a great visit. He** I didn't even know they had tractors in New Jersey!!! I thought the only thing they did there was make that "other" brand of Picante Sauce (remember that commercial).

Thanks again Bob. I'll be calling you this Spring about my tractor's transmission.
