Just when I get to thinking seriously about retirement I read something like this.I guess the 38 accidents, rain and cold aren't that bad!

As long as you and yours aren't part of it, yeah.... Seriously, I have a great wife, I'd like her to retire.

Freezing rain last night, but roads were ok. Fortunately power stayed on.

33F and snowing. We have about 3" down. Tomorrow's forecast now is for maybe 1/2" of rain staying above freezing. That should look interesting on top of the snow which is plenty wet to begin with. Anyone have a bucket squeegee attachment? Since the Wednesday before Turkey Day, the weather has been all over the place from snow to sub-zero to rain.

I hear ya Irv on the retired wife. Sharon is officially retired but spends many hours working on web sites for dog breeders and dog clubs, plus she is the chairperson for the quarterly Leonberger Club printed and online magazine. I'm a web widower :) which is why I spend too much time on the web occupying myself now that the outdoor season is done.

It's down to 38F, with a forecast low of 36F {here in Blountstown} The cleaning guy left me a note, asking me to cover up the pineapple plant. I don't think it will get cold enough to hurt it, but I covered it up anyway. From my reading, I think they are alright down to upper 20's.

Reposted the pics with hope they work.

Managed to get a few hours mowing this afternoon. Just what you plowing, shoveling, blowing guys need to hear :)

40 but it feels colder. Moon is shining bright. I'm taking just my 5 year old today for visitation, the teens have conflicts with their rehearsals for music program Friday night.

We are going shopping so she can buy gifts for her sisters. Then we will wrap them, which ought to be an adventure...

Be well all.

Yes they are, and yes they do... In Feb she will be 6... She was only 4 when my separation/divorce crap started in March of '13...

I sure hope my life straightens out soon...

Be well,
David

33F. Supposed to be a precipitation pause until around noon, then some more rain. I think this morning would be my best time to get the 2-3 inches of slush cleared off.

Yep, have fun Christmas shopping with your youngest David. When all else fails for wrapping, those decorative print gift sacks aren't too bad. Stuff some red and green tissue paper in, tie a ribbon bow on the handles, done.

Where's the fun in THAT! I'm going to post pics of the mass of tape and paper when we finish (with a bow of course!).

LOL!!! Gotta go!

38 degrees with a high of 50 today. Paving contractor comes today to look at my new driveway that has grass growing through the center in one area. He waited so long to respond that the weather is colder now, I'm told Roundup, etc does not work under 50 degrees, and that if grass was mixed into the underlayment, when the pavement went on, it kept the heat under the ground and centipede/Bermuda grass just takes off growing. Lovely. Some areas are even worse now; I don't think poison is the answer here but not sure doing anything now makes sense, wait until Spring. And then what, watch other areas push up the pavement and then poison them? What about the busted up pavement in the meantime? I was told "oh when the heat hits it in the Spring it will all repair itself".
Really...

The owner of the company who did/subbed out the paving is a lifelong friend of my general contractor. That guy inspected the driveway, shook his head, said he agreed me with perfectly on the fouling of the underlayment due to the second grading, and that at least now, poison away. With my newly planted apple trees 500 feet away. No choice, ripping a hundred feet of driveway up is an awful alternative, another huge mess.

other than dealing with that this morning, I bought two big rolls of steel fencing to cut and put around my fruit trees today. One apple tree had already been badly damaged by deer rubbing. Not after today. My helper comes today and I'm going to get him to do all the wire snipping. A heavy glove chore for sure.

sorry so many of you are dealing with messy weather. Take it easy out there.

Drew,

The local apple orchards here told me once that they use an old Amish trick to keep the deer away.

Buy big bars of Ivory soap. drill a hole in the middle of the bar, and tie it with rope around a fork in the tree about midway up. Deer cant handle the smell, keeps them away...

Worth a shot...

Be well,
David

Not actually late this morning...had no internet connection at home, so I'm posting this at work...

33 right now...roads were slushy, but not too bad. Still kept it at 45-50 mph. High will be about 36, so no freeze up today....might get a few inches of snow tonight.

We didn't get anywhere near the predicted accumulation yesterday...maybe 4-5 inches of very wet snow. I planned on clearing the drive and walks this morning, but our power was out from 2100 last night until about 0330 this morning. I'll hit it this afternoon.

A very active weather pattern coming up lots of moisture coming in from west across south then heading up coast (east coast) that is .If cold air is here then snow if not cold rain. Crystal ball fuzzy right now

Drew sorry about driveway

David be careful of blab factor with young ones telling what's in packages. I bet you will never guess how I know.

Crystal ball not as fuzzy for January cold and stormy
