Good morning!!!!

Good Afternoon. 1205, sunny, 53F with 55% humidity. Forecast high of 56F with 0% chance of rain this afternoon, and a low of 36F tonight. A cool, windy day here in NW Florida. Other than going out to unload yesterday's shopping from the car, I haven't been outside.

Margie is on her way back from Orlando. I'll run over to Bristol to pick her up between 3 and 4 o'clock. I had to work every night she was gone, so I didn't really have the opportunity to fully enjoy my me time. But on the plus side, I didn't have time to miss her either.

Everyone stay safe and warm,

Larro

29.4 degrees and overcast @ 14:35 ...

Waiting for a call back from the HVAC guys to see if they can obtain a tracking number for the gas valve. Trying to avoid a repeat of the last time where it was supposedly ordered on a Saturday and then took 10 days ... to go 220 miles via UPS.

Out of firewood here at the house, will have to make a run with the tractor and bring down another bucket load.

Irish Spring hand soap is used for that too. I don't know how well the soap thing works.

Irish Spring works very well. You can use a potato peeler to shave some around to make the bar go further. You can also soak some baler twine in diesel fuel and hang that around. Both worked for us.

I intend to use Irish Spring on half the trees and Ivory on the other half.
Thanks guys!

My day did not end well. New contractor brought in to finish installing the last three windows, after the last crew was fired, and to fix all the bad aluminum flashing work done, and I was shown today where every single window was installed incorrectly, for numerous reasons, including blocking the weep holes in the bottom of the windows. We opened up one brand new window and water poured out the bottom...
More than a little disappointing, the idea of going through 29 windows cut out again and reinstalled just has me nauseous.
The guys today sure knew their stuff, and will make it right.

I think I need to learn how to drink...

I don't know how the ivory works but I put Irish Spring around my garden one year 2 days later the deer ate 100 tomato plants and every thing else.

It's very difficult to move to an area as a total stranger, no local contacts base, family, friends, etc., and hire the 'right' people for things. It's a shame there is that much poor workmanship out there, but it's everywhere I think. We certainly ran into some of those issues when we were rushed to build here before we had planned to.

A screwdriver may be an appropriate drink to learn on. Hope you will soon put it all behind you and enjoy the hot tub.

That's my boy Bubba. He died over a year ago, from cancer. Great dog, I keep him as my avatar just to keep him in my thoughts. We have one of his daughter's, and I see a bit of him in her.

Drinking is easy...sobering up is the tough part...

Weren't these windows just installed? If they were installed wrong by the first contractor, contact him....and, if necessary, a lawyer. This repair should NOT come out of YOUR pocket!!!

37 right now. Managed to get to town and pick up windows and door for building. This is turning into a slow process. At a point where I need second person and its to cold for all my help. Did get a new closet organizer in the master closet. Old one was only propped up for a year. As we finally remembered to buy one last week end. Now wife has to go through clothing in order to go to bed. :).

Drew that's not good on those windows. Maybe this crew won't be a "we little problem Mr. Drew" crew.

What a day. And my general contractor is so embarrassed he said that any existing covered over damage that has to be fixed which would have been a reasonable extra before they would eat entirely, they would have everything reinstalled and I would not pay a penny. The horse is out of the barn; I can't ask for more than this now. And the new installer is a true good old boy and we get along just fine. Onward, but maybe I'll go to the beach or something for a few days when they start ripping them out again.

and on a much happier note, I defy you to watch this and not smile...

Dang it Drew, you are having a rough time of it. Hope it gets better for you.

Going to Bristol to pick up Margie I got stuck in road construction between Blountstown and the Apalachicola River Bridge, then on the way back we were stuck on the bridge for about 20 minutes. Sitting there I got a good look at the tornado damage from a couple three weeks ago. There was a crew out there trying to save what logs they could, but it was a big mess. The timber company that owns the land is owned by the same family who's trust fund has funded the Civic Center where I work.

Ya, 80 miles is marginal unless it really pays. One way to strengthen your chain link fencing is to run top and bottom cables. I think our bottom cable is galvanized steel, about 3/8" made up of three strands, then tied to the fence with aluminum wire every 2-3 feet. The chain link fence will give a lot more than a tight cable if you push against the top or bottom. We have a top pipe rail, cable on the bottom only. The cable is on the inside (dog side) of the fence.

Well, not sure about "it" pays, but I know "we" pay :) another $700 trip and we wonder what we got :( OK, the 4 bags of dog food made it worthwhile LOL

Right about the cables and I strung one top and bottom except the section with the top rail. That was the main reason I set the 2 new termination posts in concrete so I could get some tension. Also did the tie. I like top rails, just don't like the $1plus/ft it adds to cost, especially on a budget project.

26.4 F and overcast @ 03:00 ...

Just reloaded the wood burner here @ the house ... it looks like a full box of wood lasted about 6 hours ... was still a very nice bed of coals about 8" to 10" deep and a few small pieces of wood left when I opened the door. Temp in this drafty old place is 67F.

Got prices yesterday on some sheet metal to enclose the top of the furnace and make a mounting point for the duct work ... looks like about $80 to $120, depending on the gauge (10, 11, 12) and the actual dimensions (4' or 5' x 8' or 10') ...

The scrap steel I have here will probably cover a big chunk of that.

Got the damper for the duct work picked up, along with what will hopefully be the last of the hydraulic fittings for the rear remotes.

The HVAC guy who was going to "call you (me) back in a few" yesterday after he checked on a tracking number didn't ... I'm beginning to think that maybe in addition to possibly being incompetent they are just plain stupid as well.

Spent the night before last cleaning the concrete dust out of the tool box and putting tools away ... will work some more on getting that finished up when I head up in a few.

Hope everyone has a good day ... stay warm.

Buddy,

That might be the last thing ya wanna to do ...

Personally, I'd go with "stuck on 'em like glue" ... ;)

31 right now...high of 33 today.

I'm up late since I have to go to Burlington today. My neighbor cleaned off the drive yesterday, but I'll have to do the walks when I get home.
All told, looks like 7-9 inches of snow accumulation in the last two days...
