JD 4320
This past June I traded up to a John Deere 4320 from a 3320 and just learned that there is not enough room in the standard rear wheel position for the road chains that came with the new tractor, as they will rub against the inside of the fender. So I turned the wheels like had been done for the 3320 and the wheel width is now unfreaking real! It's now slightly wider than my 84 inch rear blade. Has any one out there run into the same issue and had any success with adding a two inch skid steer (or other?) wheel spacer to a JD 4020 series compact? If so, what is the brand, product number, cost, and retailer you used? If only John Deere would not have taken the cheap skate route and discountinued the 8 position rims that they had sold on the 4020 series for years! I can't be the only one out there that needs to run tire chains on this size tractor. Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

I experienced the exact same thing as you described with my 2010 4320. My 2007 4320 did not have the issue because the rims were adjustable as you mentioned. I installed 2" wheel spacers on the 2010 model and that has worked well. A set of four spacers were purchased on ebay for about $300 with free shipping at the time. I used the other 2 spacers on my 3720 tractor to improve stability on steep hills. You can purchase a set of two spacers or a set of 4 spacers on ebay from several different sellers.

As sunnyside360 said, the 2" spacers work very well... on my 4300.

Folks......Thank you for the quick responses and welcome aboard!!

Would you know the specific size specifications that I need to assure that I order the correct size of the spacers for a proper fit? Would you have any links handy to get me to the right source on the web? Thanks again for the help!

Sunny,

Thank you for the product info and older thread on the same issue to review. It was all very very helpful. Take care!

Not sure if I mentioned it but the spacers for the 3x20 and 4x20 wheels are exactly the same. Good luck.

Sunnyside360,

With your skid steer solutions.com wheel spacers on your 4320 were you able to use your existing 14mm wheel bolt studs when mounting the 2" spacer onto the hub or did you need to purhase a longer size? If so, how long and where did you find them? Do you recall the cost?

Any one else out there with the same product and JD 3020 or 4020 series tractor?

The set I got came with all the studs needed to install the spacers. The only thing extra I bought was the blue thread lock to keep bolts from working loose.

So your set had both the 9/16th studs for the wheel side and another 14mm set of studs for the tractors hub side?

Hope mine are the same when they arrive here tomorrow.

I'd have to go down to the barn and check but if I remember correctly I used the JD hardware (studs) to attach the spacers to the tractor wheel hub. The spacers had studs already mounted (permanently) which required only wheel lug nuts that skidsteer.com supplied.

Thank you for the reply. That sounds like you were able to reuse the JD 14mm studs at the hub side of the spacer. If you do get out to the barn tomorrow, could you please confirm. Thanks again.

I went through that 3 years ago with my 3720. After mounting the casting with the original JD bolts I noticed they stopped a few threads short of going through the hub. I went to NAPA and got new longer bolts to go through the hub and used blue Loctite on everything. No problems after that.

Deere Dude......So happened that I was just at my local NAPA store on Saturday and they claimed that they had nothing any longer in a 14mm size. I'll try a different NAPA store and look over their website to see if I can find that larger size that you found. Thanks for the intel and the note on the Loctite!

Now that deerdude mentioned it, I remember the JD studs were like 1 or 2 threads short of going completely thru the axle hub but I used the JD studs anyway since the hub is quite thick and didn't see a need to get longer studs.

Additional Info: I have a JD 485 Backhoe on my 4320 and haven't had any issues with the spacers. Some folks are reluctant to put spacers on a tractor with a heavy backhoe which can exert huge forces on the rear axle.

I was able to mount the skid steer solutions.com spacers today on the 4320 and the fit was very good. Thanks for all the good info on this thread and other threads on this site. Below is some pictures of this evolution. Pic 1 is the factory original with no room for chains. Pic 2 is with wheels turned (crazy wide). Pic 3 is with the 2 inch spaces. Then some misc pictures.
