new carport

/ new carport #21
After reading this thread I'm thinking of going this route next year. I currently have a 25x30 steel Quonset style (called the X style) from Future Steel out of Canada. It's been serving the needs since 2005 but getting crowded.
Can these carport type building be installed on concrete piers to raise the height and then enclosed later? I'd like to be able to put my bucket truck in during winter when I don't use it. With boom all the way down I'm still looking at over 10' for height.

I belive you can get up to 12' legs.

Probably easier & cheaper than messing with excavation, concrete & sonotubes. In the meantime I sent an inquiry for my requirements. We'll see how it goes. Nothing will happen until at least June/July of the coming year anyway.

After clicking on a link that specifically prices delivery & set up to New York state at Storage Buildings, Garages, Carports, Horse Barns & Gazebo Kits, I received an email several days after the inquiry stating that they do not service my area of the country.
Here's a paragraph from their site:
"Free delivery and installation on the metal garages and metal carports to Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia."
Here's Alan's reply to my inquiry:
"Hello Todd,

Thank you for checking with me however we do not delivery to your location and I do not know of anyone who services your area.

And we do not ship them to your location or allow pick up.

Thanks, Alan"

Maybe they just don't come as far north in NY as my location. Oh well, I've got all winter and next spring to figure out what I'm going to do. There are some local/semi local carport installers around. Next time I pass by one in my travels I'll have to note the number and see if they can do one with 12 foot tall legs.

Go on Carolinacarports.com. Some companies service areas are limited, but I believe Carolina Carports or TNT carports will deliver/install in your area.

I bought from TNT about 8 years ago. I had mine fully enclosed walls and rear. Built front doors for it added basic lights and man door. Not sure of size but keep 45 foot 5th wheel on one side and Chevy 4 door dully and 17 foot boat on other side. 8 years no problems but I doubt it would take hit from large tree very well.

A quick peek at Carolina and TNT websites shows that both have some local dealers. Thanks for the leads guys.

I had one put up several years ago by "Tri-State Carports". HPIM3182.JPG I later enclosed it myself & added a woodshed lean-to on the south side.

This fall, I ordered another one from "Elephant Structures" (another Caroline Carport name) as they were the only ones I could find that would sell me one not set up. The plan was to add another lean-to on the north side of the current one. I made brackets to bolt to the current frame: HPIM1338.jpg Cut the frame bows in half & bolt them into the brackets: HPIM1341.jpg I intend to pick up the metal locally tomorrow to finish the lean-to: HPIM1353.jpg

The other half will be used to make a 10' x 18' shade over the picnic table at the farm: HPIM3255.JPG

Ok, update on my carport from Carolinacarports.com. I posting this because I posted a link to them earler in this thread. I am not the OP of this thread.

They scheduled a delivery for 11/4. They Called on the 3rd to push it back to the 5th. At 3:30pm on the 5th I called to see where the were. I was told they were finishing up current instal, and that they were a hr out. I was assured they would be here, and that they have lights if it gets dark out. They called back @ 5pm telling me they wouldn't be able to make it because it's too dangerous to work at night, and they were very sorry and they would put me on the next delivery schedule in my area. I couldn't believe what I just heard. I said you mean you will be here in the morning, correct? No, sir, the drivers have to get back to NC (im in NY) to load up for Thursdays and Friday's delivery's. I said what about mine? Why do these deliveries come before mine. There answer.... they have to keep the schedule. So I guess its better to totally tick off one customer than inconvenience a few. Needless to say, I canceled the order. So if anyone decides to go with these idiots, good luck. Rant over.......

So...correct me if I'm wrong. You called less than 24 hours from your scheduled day to "push back" to the next day? You're pissed because they couldn't squeeze you in at YOUR desired time?

Granted, they shouldn't have told you they could do it on the 5th if they thought they couldn't...but 100% of this situation is because YOU changed the date that YOU initially agreed to.

In my opinion, Carolina Carports isn't the one at fault.

FYI, I'm fixing to order one myself.

No, they called to push it back. Not me. NOT my fualt. I reread my post, and I can see where you thought I called to push it back. I edited it to avoid any other confusion.

So was the carport type building cheaper than a pole barn? I've been looking at them online recently.
I always thought the carports looked a bit ghetto...but have changed my way of thinking. :D
Carolina has a decent little build it/interactive pricing thing.

My 18x26x8 peak style with enclosed sides was $2300 instaled. I DO NOT recommend Carolina carports. They strung me along and customer service was lacking to say the least. See post #32 of this thread. I went with HBO carports and am happy with there service..

I missed that post Mowin, good info to know. It sort of reminds me of going into a business and while dealing with me they answer the phone and leave me standing there.
