Another root and rock picking day. Did a couple hours this morning then had lunch followed by a siesta, then back at it four hours this afternoon.

I'm looking forward to the end of this hot (86F) muggy weather. I bet you guys further south are laughing. There's nothing funny about sweaty underwear getting stuck in your butt crack. :)

72F and raining with an occasional rumble of thunder @ 01:45

Just woke up ... having my first cup ...

Cats are also up ... and not liking the thunder aspect ...

It's the wife's fault ... for failing to perform her wifely duties of keeping the larder properly stocked.

Yesterday I was forced ... forced I tell ya ... to drink Mike's Hard Lime to quench my thirst ... it was all we had here (except for some Lipton sweet tea )

A couple of those, then a hot Italian sausage sandwich from Guiseppe's Pizza for dinner after working outside in the heat all day and I was gone ...

I got all the yard mowing done ... I even managed to mow about half of the pad where the gas well is (200' x 200'). Gas company came in a while back with a rotary cutter and cut it all down to the point that I could now see what was there. It needs run over with a dethatcher or landscape rake to clear the clumps and the sticks ...

Here's a pic of a shovel head I found somewhere on the property (don't ever remember owning one of those) that got the acid bath treatment ... along with the 1 1/2 inch square tube, which had sat out overnight after dipping and had flash rusted a bit ...

IMG_1494.jpg

They cleaned up pretty nice ... but it looks like they both could use another dip for a couple of hours.

Now that it's cooled off, I think I will try and get the legs for the welding table all welded up when I head up to the shop in a few.

Ryan,
Try vinegar with your metal rather than that nasty muriatic acid stuff. It works a little slower but it's a lot safer to play with and no hazardous waste to deal with. Just wash it off in fresh warm water (with your bare hands!) using a fine wire brush or whatever.
Hey rs !

Yeah ... thanks ... great idea !

I think I will give it a try for general de-rusting up in the shop ... I certainly don't want to bring this muriatic acid inside - with the fumes and all - once the weather starts getting bad ...

I think I'd read or heard that there is a stronger version ... "cleaning vinegar" ... or something like that ... that can be used for de-rusting ...

Sounds like it would be ideal, where you could toss something in it and not have to worry about it being ate up if you forgot about it for a while.

And speaking of forgetting about stuff ... when I opened up the 5 gallon bucket of phosphoric acid a while back to de-rust some stuff for a neighbor, I fished around down in there and found a u-shaped piece of metal I had stuck in there ... about 10 years ago ... :D

It's one (of two) seat mounts for our old Cub Cadet 782 that I had started to restore ...

I'll have to dig out the other one and see how they compare ... I was surprised the one in the acid bucket was still even there.

See! It is because your too busy on detailing your tools. :) :)
I knew there had to be a reason that it was my fault ... thanks for the heads up and helping me to "see the light" ...

BTW - she was squeakin' about 'em again when she hit the door last evening, noting that I had thrown more Apicide on them ... and they were still there ...

"It's been more than a week now ..."

I couldn't make it up if I tried ...

71 degrees and heading to the mid 80’s. hotter this week than it has been all summer, I think?
Chance of some rain late in the day, might cool things down a bit.

good morning all. Am in Delaware on the way home today.
I just want to forget the last two days.
Heat exhaustion helping trucker load ag equipment, face went purple, heart pounding, sick as heck.
I chilled out immediately, but I've felt lousy since, chills, sweats, cramping body wide, can't eat when I'm hungry, boy I can't wait until this done. Almost done me in for sure. Could be a sugar issue too, not sure.

and it got worse yesterday. Trying to load my new Avalon on the car dolley, the air dam did not clear and almost ripped the front of the car off. Maybe a thousand in plastic parts damage. We finally got it on, but not sure how to get it off. Luckily my new next door neighbor is a FT fireman and with my cribbing, I think we can get it off without leaving the bumper on the ground. Really made me sick(er), new car...

sorry to moan, it's just like how can this get any harder. But 2pm today I'll be home, and I may go right to bed.
and tomorrow I will be more positive.

74 with 92 forecasted. Wayne, I'm with you - hottest week so far - we've had more 90 degree days this week than all of August.

Got all the mowing done yesterday. Today will be roasting some Hatch chiles, and try making rellenos for the first time.

When you overheat does damage to your kidneys as well as other things. First time for me in hospital for 27 hours. Drink plenty of fluids with electrolytes in them. Salt pills will stop cramps and check with doctor some medicines you may be taking dehydrate you. This is not something to fool around with

So sorry about the car but remember it is a poession and can be fixed Take care

Still sick ugh now in chest big time and sore throat from hades. So far behind in work have to work today as well

MFW David you sound much much better. A positive outlook will go far

rswyan when you get bored you can come to my little abode and work some of your magic that is if you have time
