dreaded battery leak

I rinsed it off some last night as soon as I noticed what was going on then this morning I dumped a bunch of baking soda all over the area as per directed. Then I hosed it off very thoroughly again. When I change the battery out I will repaint it with something very durable. Thanks again

Let us know how you make out with it.

Far as I'm concerned, batteries are consumable parts. Having said that, I'd loose the OEM box and replace it with an AGM of any brand. They don't leak. Optima and Oddsey are overpriced for general use.

You could get a AGM battery, but there is no real need to do so. AGMs have their place, and higher prices than lead acid batteries, but a good quality lead acid battery will also suit your needs.

I had this same problem with the battery in my Mahindra 16 series. It seems this was a common problem with this series. There is a cheap , no name battery in these and I do not think they are put together very well. After I cleaned it all up, I brushed on some 'Chassis Guard" on the battery box and sprayed that with Rustoleum. I used the same battery but applied some "Battery Saver" over the electrodes/connections and used the felt anti-corrosion donuts as well. This problem seemed to crop up in these after about a year. It's been a year after I fixed the area and all is holding up with no more leaking.

After reading this, I'm just going to start transitioning to the AGM batteries BEFORE I have a significant battery acid event.

I don't want to deal with this kind of damage and clean-up.

I've been keeping an eye on my battery every since I learned of
the battery leakage problem with Bobcat batteries on TBN. I've
had the tractor for a little over two years now and hadn't noticed
any leakage until today. There was corrosion on the top bracket
that holds the battery in place. I removed the bracket and the
battery and, fortunately, there was no corrosion anywhere else.
Closer examination of the battery revealed that the leakage was
from the vent caps. Curiously enough, the top of both vent cap
covers had the usual safety warnings plus the admonition to
"keep vent caps tight and level - do not tip"!!!

I guess I'll have to find a battery that doesn't leak through the
vent caps. The current battery in my Bobcat CT335 is a Bobcat
part # 6673865. In the manual that came with the tractor, the
specified part number is listed as 6674687, and this battery is
also listed in the Bobcat Battery Reference Guide as a
6674687D. I haven't determined what the D signifies yet.

I recently had a battery explode on me while operating the tractor. And when I say explode I don't mean pop. Sounded like a 30-06 went off and a ball of blue flame that was around 4' in diameter. Blew three sides of the battery off. Luckly I had dropped a screw and couldn't find it so I left the grill off. That let the pressure from the explosion go out the front.

Replaced the battery, O'reillys covered it under warranty, traced the problem to alternator was putting out 18 volts. If you never had this happen it is an event you will allways remember. Yes and acid blown everywhere. I found some battery acid neutraziler in a spray can and sprayed everything till it quit foaming and turning color.

Check your alternator voltage so your battery doesn't explode also.

Over 14.5 volts will boil some water out.

Well I don't think you have a bad cell, and it doesn't seem you have a defective regulator in the alternator. I guess you just have a cracked battery. I would measure the charging voltage at 2000 rpm though before I was sure. Are you thinking you can seal the crack or something?.. I think it is going to leak again, and you will be fighting corrosion for ever. I would swap out the battery for a new one, and yes Interstate is a great brand, clean it all up and repaint.

Or since he was working at an extreme angle it could just be coming out the vent, remember the H2 produced during charge has to go somewhere.

Yes I have worked with Lead Acid Batteries.
