61 going to 85. Feels great outside.

I see youse guys are making fun of how some us down here tawk. Remember that link that someone posted a few months ago with the quiz on the name or term that you use to call things - then it predicted where you live? Drew, try to look that up, because it's not only pronunciation, but you'll find some of the names can be different for the same thing. It'll be fun.

I ain't makin' fun, I've been livin' in Maryland for 41 years and i still talk Carolina. Maybe a little more 'R' and little less y'all come, but nobody mistakes me for a born shoreman. Names are a funny thing, here Beauchamp is pronounced 'bee-chump', in my part of Carolina it was 'bo-champ', when I was in Baton Rouge it was 'bo-shaump'.

Maryland is pronounced "Merleland"....borne and raised there (Catonsville...just SW of Baldamore)

Being unable to hear, I really wonder sometimes what the difference in accent, pronunciation, inflection, etc. must be like. And yes, I know that everyone's voice is different...that is what I have been told many times...but it's very difficult to believe there can actually be so much disparity...

People tell me I sound like a German part of the time...but I am darned if I have any idea what that means....

Good Morning. 1035, sunny, 81F with 87% humidity. Forecast high of 86F with 77% chance of a thunderstorm this afternoon, and a low of 72F tonight. Looking at the radar, I see lots of showers along the coast and moving to the northeast. That means they will be here in the afternoon. Hope none of them cause the trouble yesterday's storm caused. I haven't heard how long Altha was without power, but when you have that many people and houses {536/219} without power, I'm sure there was a whole lot of folks standing in the yard talking, when they would normally be on the couch watching TV.

I'm going to try to do a little mowing before the rain gets here. Hope you guys have a good day.

Larro

Larro...you sound like me...we get the same afternoon thunderstorms almost daily this time of year and I always hope we don't have any tree damage or worse or lose power...We are expecting storms everyday this week...

66F and .20 inches rain since midnight and clearing.

Have to go into town and pick up order of new dining room chairs. Not ready to use them yet but added project creep to my list.
Back home I hope to finish up the garage reorg. At least one more shelving section, then clean up.
Friends coming over later this afternoon, will grill some London Broil and Chicken strips.

Be safe
Have a great day.

Fun indeed, would love to read it.

Most know we have language differences here in Hawaii. One major is Pidgin. Takes some getting used to. One of the primary missteps of a newcomer is trying to speak it. Much better to learn to understand it. Even after almost 13 years in Hawaii, I can miss part of a conversation, especially with some of the older folk. There is an interesting segment on morning radio that attempts to bridge the gap. The hosts will describe a situation, offer up English equivalency and then open the phone lines for call in with the pidgin word or phrase. What I find particularly interesting is how long it can take to get the correct answer, sometimes 20 plus callers. Adding to the entertainment is some of the incorrect answers and the reaction of some to learn they are in correct. Of course there are days when the correct answer is the first caller, but not often. Many times the incorrect answer is influenced by the callers heritage or location on the island. Sometimes, even I guess correctly.

Have fun Drew

Daugen, seeing where you now will be living, if I were you, I'd let the neighbor teenager cut my yard and I'd spend the money on a boat to go fishing in those waters!!! I figure $21K could last a long time paying the neighbor kid about $125 every 10 days during the summer. Or better yet, when the kid is done, take him fishing so he can pull up the anchor. :)
