Hello, this is my first post! I am in the market to replace my JD 790 with something larger. I am looking at the JD 4120 and the 4320. I was wondering what your opinion on those models is and if it is worth the extra money to go with the larger one. Also my 790 has turf tires on it and we run 4 chains on it all year round, due to the fact that most of what we do is loader work and we need the extra traction and some of the area is is hilly and the trufs struggled up on damp days. The 790 is also used for mowing a few pastures, about 8 acres with a 60" finish mower that I am keeping for now and grading my gravel road and driveway (about 1/10 of a mile). The new tractor will also be used for light fire wood logging for my own use and eventually putting in food plots for deer. We will also be using the tractor for clearing some forest to put in more pasture space. The other question i have is the tires, my first thought is go with the R1 because of the extra traction but I also like the idea of the R4 for the more durability and longer life. I fear that I will ware down the R1 using them to grade the road and plow snow or puncture them while in the woods logging or clearing land. Either way I plan on having them loaded for counter weight.

Also my 790 is up for sale if anyone in the central Maine area is interested.

Are you set on green?

You could get a DK series Kioti 40/45/50 HP with a backhoe or cab for less than the JD open station, they also have the free loader program going on, don't snooze though, the DK series are tier3 emissions no computer, or exhaust treatment, when they are gone thats it.
My DK has a throttle cable, mechanical injection and governor, and a muffler...I like it that way :) Less is more:thumbsup:

They are being replaced by the NX series...Tier4 for 2014

All 2014 tractors must meet tier 4 emissions, with all the computer controls exhaust treatment etc.

Linky...Kioti Tractors

Ls also makes a good tractor, priced similar to Kioti

FYI my Dad has a 970JD he bought new in 97 it's been a great tractor, my DK is a Cadillac in comparison, he really likes my tractor.

Good luck

I've had R1's on my 750 since new and have run a rotary mower in some pretty nasty conditions and never punctured a tire. In fact, the only drawback I've found with the ag tires is that they DO tend to tear up sod in some conditions (usually involving tight turns or 4WD), but even that is a minor consideration as I don't mow the lawn with it anyway.

Out of curiosity, why do you want to replace the 790? Not familiar with the HP or features of the models mentioned, but I have a serious aversion to increased complexity unless there are clear advantages. Plus, being a bit of a codger, I'd avoid the extra expense and complexity of Tier 4 diesels.

I've often thought of upgrading to a 790 for the synchro trans and the power steering but never came across the right deal.

I need something with more lifting power and more weight for the work I need to do.

That's a pretty healthy jump (and $$$) from a 790 to a 4x20 series machine. You might want to consider one of the 3x20 series...or even a 4005 (renumbered 990). Frankly, if you're OK with a gear transmission (and apparently, you are), the 4005 would be my choice. Cheaper then a 4x20 series machine and plenty of power.

Nothing wrong with looking at other brands either...I'm a green guy too, but I'd at least look at the Kiotis.

I bought a 4120 last fall. I did own a 4310 a few years ago ( same as today's 3320) I looked at the 3520 vs the 4120. Was about a $4k difference in price which put me at the top of my budget for the 4120 but went that route anyhow. Debated and was concerned that maybe I should have gone with the 4320 for the extra HP. I have about 27 hrs on my 4120 now plowing snow, pulling trees, and disking with a 6.5" disk. I have yet to run out of HP. Ran a 60" tiller and it acted like it wasn't there. So if you are concerned about HP don't be. As far as tires, I went with the R4's. Good compromise I think. No issues in the snow but does slip a little pulling the disc in 2 wheel drive with unloaded tires.

Thanks for the kioti tractor suggestion I went and had a look at them and with the loader program that are $10000 less than jd

What Kioti tractors did you look at?
10,000 less is a lot of cash!
My friend is a JD guy threw and threw but after helping me to lock in a decision on what to buy last month and then actually putting it to work here at my place he is looking very hard at trading in His JD and getting a Kioti..

If you're not fussed about having a cab-option I can recommend the JD 4105. (touch the woodpile) I've not had a problem with mine and it's done everything that I've asked of it. No problems with my R4 tyres either.

Yes, I'm a Green Bloke. There are heaps of other colours out there that are also very reliable... that being said (and noting that you already have a tractor) it's the after-sales support/reputation of the Dealership that counts.

Welcome to TBN, by the way, where we'll be more than happy to advise & help you spend your money. It's what we do!

Yes! You could get a Cab unit, with heat, A/C, Stereo/CD player and still be 5 grand less than the open station Deere....Or a Cab and a Backhoe, for about 1500 more than the open station Deere:thumbsup:

Don't get me wrong the Deeres are nice tractors...but so are Kiotis...and you get a lot of tractor for the money with the Kioti, The DK series are a very good value IMO..2761 lbs of lift on the loader, heavy,...Tier 3...no computer hockus pokus, no check engine lights, error codes etc, I think as some time goes on, these later model Tier 3 tractors are going to be very sought after machines.

I think your on the right track with the 40 horse frame size, you get alot more capable tractor for not to much more money:)

I was looking at the DK40SE HST, which was about 10000 less than the jd 4120. His price was just under $25000 out the door and the DK45SE HST was about $3000 more, both with loaded R4 and no cab. As much as I would love a cab in the winter it wouldn't fit in my garage and I would have to make all my woods roads larger to keep from hitting branches and breaking windows. I have thought about an excavator and with the lower price a backhoe could be in my future.

I think you can do a little better on the price. I paid 27 with the backhoe included.

Was that with tax? I

I think the going rate now for the 40 hst is 23 ish before tax etc.

Sounds like there may be a little meat on the bone yet when you get serious.

When I bought my tractor there was 1500.00 price difference between the 40 and the 45, and another 1500 to the DK50.

FYI the PTO HP is 32.5 on the 40hst, 36 on the 45hst, and 37.5 on the 50hst.

I felt the for the 1500.00 price jump between the HP ratings the 45, was the best bang for my buck with the Cab as the AC. sucks some power.

I don't have the paperwork in front of me but it was just under $25000 with tax and having the rear tires loaded, I can't remember what the breakdown was.

Welcome to TBN

If you're not stuck on green, you can buy most other brands for less. Check to see what other brand dealers are in your area.
LS tractors like the R3039 and R4041 tractors are much lower priced than the quote you have. For 27K you can get an XR4040HC with cab.

I have looked at new holland and kuboda I didn't care for the new holland and the kuboda was higher than jd after the jd equine discount

I have heard that pricing varies by region, paulfun9 got a screaming deal.
Seams like folks are paying 21 to 23 depending on where they live.

Way cheaper than the Deere in any case, and a very nice and capable tractor.

I would go back and tell him, you will take it for that price, if they put a third function valve on, with a rocker switch on the joystick, plumbed to the front crossmember on the loader to run a grapple bucket.

You got your first quote, so you need to go back and try and chew a little more meat off the bone on the final sale;)

Maybe he will meet you half way on the third function valve, or maybe you will you will get it.

I doesn't hurt to try, I got the third function valve, and a mechanical thumb on the hoe added for 500.00 more than my first quote for just the tractor and hoe, I loaded the rear tires myself. (old tire guy)

Keep in mind the DKs come standard with the quick attach bucket, so anything that you can put on a skidsteer you can put on the front of a DK, pallet forks, grapple buckets etc...These are a deluxe tractor, with many features other brands don't offer, or charge more for:thumbsup:

Also you will get a better deal on the hoe if you are going to get one, if you buy it now with the tractor.

The DK takes the KB2485 backhoe, this is a subframe mount unit, I can take mine off in about three minutes and put it back on in less than 10.

When I bought my tractor the end of May last year, the hoe was 6500.00 additional when purchased with the tractor.

Good luck:)

Is that with a cab and backhoe?
The best price I got for the 3039 with loader and backhoe was about a thousand less but I felt a bit cramped on them and they protested when I tried running them in high gear. Kabota, Kioti and TYM all were able to use high gear with no issues but with the LS it was a struggle to get it rolling.
