Bobcat 743
I have an older 1987 Bobcat 743 w the Kubota 4 cylinder diesel. Paid a mechanic 800.00 to rebuild the injector pump as he stated the rack had frozen shut on the inside of the pump, preventing fuel to the injectors. This lasted about 3 months and now experiencing the same symptoms. No fuel to the injectors. Called him- he said it was common for this," fuel rod to stick on the older models and I needed to buy a new injector pump. Any suggestions on how I can repair this without the 1K bill he is suggesting now? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If it was so common to this pump, why didn't he tell you he recommended buying a new pump rather than rebuild the old one. I think I would at least get a different opinion about the pump. It could just be shoddy work on the rebuild or maybe not even a rebuild. Could he have just freed up the "fuel rod"? (not sure what that is he is referring to). Either way, he didn't show good judgement toward you for not telling you about the problem pump, assuming there really is one and the problem isn't just poor mechanic work.
Take your pump to a shop that specializes in injector pump rebuilds and have them look at it and specifically ask about the so called problem.
Other thing to look at is your fuel itself, are you getting good clean fuel and keeping it clean. Even a small amount of water getting into the pump is going to grenade a pump.

What is the power symptom? Engine won't come to full RPM? or Does rev up but lags/pulls down under slight load? If it won't come up to full RPM without a load then yes pump rack maybe sticking or governor hanging up. From my experience those old Kubota with the Denso pump have very few rack related problems.
If engine dies or struggles under normal load, first check the fuel supply. Filter in the tank plugged? Fuel filter plugged? Primer bulb plugged or coming apart internally? Fuel line may have a pin hole or loose clamp allowing air to suck in. These are more common problems than the injection pump itself.
