I had survived for 28 yrs of taking care of my 15 acres with just a 1986 Yamaha quad runner, a 4' x 8' trailer, Log splitter, and a Cub Cadet lawnmower. I started researching used tractors in Oct 2013 on TBN. In the 5 months since I've bought a new tractor (I couldn't find a good used one) and 7' back blade and looking to buy pallet forks, & a stump bucket soon. I've built a work platform for some pallet forks I don't even own yet. I have been lurking in the welding forum lately and now I need to buy a welder to fab & mod my "stuff" (I haven't welded in 30yrs) I am kind of excited to try welding again ,I was pretty good back then. My wife has started calling me "all tractor all the time" , but she does see how much work we will get done around here and how much easier our chores will be.
It will make things a lot easier here that's for sure, all in all, best move I've made in a long time, should have done it many years ago. Please excuse my ramble, I'm not bit**in , actually it is a new but expensive passion. Am I going crazy or do other people suffer from this disease?

I think we all fall into this category a little bit! We all like spending other people's money to!

Oh you poor bugger... welcome to the club. This site will (and has) ensnared you into the "I Never Knew That I Needed That" vortex. It's a slippery slope, Mate.

And it's not just the things/projects you can do with your tractor but the peripheral stuff too. Have you thought about how many new tools you're going to need in your work-shed? Yes, there's a thread here that lists all of the basic tools/stuff you'll need, according to the combined wisdom and experience of TBN Members.

Good luck... and may the good Lord have mercy on your soul (+ wallet). :)

This site has probably cost me 100k at least but I'm having fun.

The first one is just an investment in a new way of life. It doesn't get expensive until you decide you want a bigger one ,,,,, for the third time.

That's why some TBN members have cabbed tractors.....they have to sleep in them because they are homeless now.

Yep, I'm guilty of this as well. I lurked here for a long time, bought an 8N to drag snow, skid trees, brush hog, etc, then realized I needed way more machine. So, I bought my LS, then my Massey, new pallet forks, two different used rotary cutters (looking for a bigger one now), a used rake, a 90" RFM, an 8' back blade, a carryall, a trailer mover, an oxy/acetylene cutting torch setup, a welder/generator, and built a 1,350lb counterweight with steel bought for the project. I did sell the 8N and then the 6' blade, and 5' brush hog that with it.

I'm looking to replace my rake with one of EA's V 3.0 landscape rakes, and add a Wicked Grapple....and probably other stuff my check book doesn't want me thinking about. Luckily, I've gotten so much done that I've saved a bunch of money compared with hiring out the jobs, or renting equipment, that my wife is very supportive. She really needs her own SCUT for gardening :D

I've saved lots because buying a tractor is cheaper than paying someone to come out and do the same thing (with less panache).

and you forget the money save on "shrinks", "yoga", and stress seminars ... just you and the great outdoors ( and a tractor of any size )

cold at times, but definitely better than doing it by hand...

Just remember that every implement you own should have a tractor hooked to it.:D

It's your money, but I will certainly help you spend it.

Amen brother, I've got the tractor, the grapple, lurking craigslist for a back blade and splitter. Her royal hotness said I'd have more fun with a tractor than another bike, if she only knew...

Cheaper than going on an expensive vacation and you get something accomplished to

You are not going crazy, most all of us here suffer from this disease and so far there is no known cure... even if there was I doubt we would accept it.

You may have the incurable disease known as Tractoritis :fever:.
Diesel and grease on the dry itchy spots are the only known treatment.

Symptoms may include 600 watt worklights :lightbulb:, new tractor only tools :wrench:, excessive TBN browsing :reading:, need for a new workshop :blacksmith:, :steeringwheel: spinner from TSC, beat up fingers and hands:bandaid:, : sudden need for lots of :dollarsign:, one really :censored:ed off wife, etc!!

:confused2:

Look, if you buy a snowmobile or a boat, you have thrown most of your money away.

I always say, if you buy a good gently used piece of equipment and take care of it, you can basically always sell it for what you paid. And if it doesn't quite get you that much money, it's well worth the difference for the work it has done and money it has saved you from hiring or renting equipment.

This is how I justify this to myself and others who may ask.

I love new equipment, and my Dad always told me to buy new, but frankly you had better be sure that it is the right equipment and you had better keep it for a long time.

I have been stuck, trying to get my money back out of newly bought equipment and it's nearly impossible!
