Cylinder seal repair

I'm repairing Woods 195 lift cylinders. All disassembled no prob. Now planning assembly. What should be used to seal threaded rod caps ? Took heat and big cheater to remove. Thinking heat was the trick. Is there a Loctite product, or will Teflon tape allow the threads to seal? I know from steam piping bare threads rarely seal, but I'm finding nothing on how to seal rod caps.

What is a "Rod Cap".........Rod gland?

Yes the threaded end of the cylinder with the rod seal.

There should be orings/backups to seal that gland to the barrel.......maybe they got burnt with the heat?

Yes there are orings to seal the gland. The rod cap really doesn't seal, it just hold the gland in place. I put some thread sealer on them. If there is leakage between the gland and cylinder wall, it should slow it down. I installed the cylinders yesterday and cycled them. Tight as a gnats ***. Opps, the tilt cylinders leak. Should have known this will be an all year project. wdchd, love those dogs. I have a beagle mix, and he is super.

I had to use a few wraps of teflon tape on mine. They had o-rings but still leaked past the threads and then past the o-rings. The teflon tape on the threads solved the problem. Kind of bizarre but haven't leaked for years so I'm not going to try to reinvent the wheel.
