316 hydro dif unlock

I was given a 90 316 today and we could not find where to unlock the diff to push it so we put it on dollys and then dragged it onto the trailer. Would someone please tell me where the lever(?) is, not visual like my other JD's are, thanks, Henry.

Did you look inside the RH rear wheelwell? Should be a lever there.

The 316 I believe is the same as the300 and the 300 has a knob right in front of the seat that u can turn and it will release the hydrostatic so u can push the tractor

No,the 316 has a lever underneath the seat pan on the right frame rail.

There were two 316's , totally different animals . 1978 with a Kohler single and a later model with Onan twin . Yours is the later model .

Went out yesterday after the snow stopped and uncovered the tractor and saw the lever on the right side just in front of the wheel. Here is a pic, thanks to all for your help.

Henry,one thing to be aware of. If that tractor has been sitting for quite some time,there is a good chance the "buttons" on top of the two relief valves that the lever pushs on may be frozen. Just because you move the lever won't necessarily mean the relief valves are working.

Greg, thanks for the info. We pulled the 316 with our 185 and the hydraulics were unlocked. Parked outside and covered for the winter.
