Looking to up grade my trailer Moritz 14000GVW. Have mini excavators and track skid steers. Considering deck over, stationary, tilts or half tilt with front stationary. Or should I stick with lower to ground between the fender trailer. Any suggestions or advice? Thanks!

I have never used a deckover, but it is what I want. Then again it's because my rotary cutter doesn't fit between the fenders of my trailer and it becomes a circus of creativity every time I need to take it somewhere. My trailer is narrower than some, so I guess just a slightly wider trailer would eliminate the problem, but I want a deckover anyway. They are also easier to side-load with a forklift if you ever use for lumber or pallets or something.

I am not sold on tilt decks. They would be convenient if you were hauling one piece of equipment and did it all of the time, but if you want to haul 2 smaller pieces, it would be a pain. Even a power tilt I wouldn't trust because you are putting an awful lot of weight in front of the pivot point until you get the second item unloaded... I doubt they are made for that. If you have specific equipment that you will use it for and a tilt bed will work, then it would be fine, but if you have a variety of different things to do with it I would skip the tilt. It's not that hard to put ramps down.

Times 2 on the deck over. Better to load stuff and so forth and are you looking at a bumper pull or a gooseneck?

I have a 20' bumper-pull 14,000 lb. GVW 1/4 - 3/4 split tilt deck to haul my dozer, mini-ex, and skid steer, plus the Dual Dozer. I like the low center of gravity and the easy on - easy off of the between-the-wheel trailers. I can also side load pallets with no problems, just not where the wheel wells are.

I have a 14k between wheel tilt deck gooseneck trailer and really want to trade to a deckover non-tilt deck with ramps. I'm tired of having to work around the fenders all the time and really wish I had the extra width. It's great for hauling one piece of equipment but that's about it, and i use it for things other than that most of the time. Just my personal opinion/experience

I think it all depends on how your stuff would fit between the fenders. If everything you have is narrow, then a lower trailer is easier to go up the ramps. However, some of my current stuff would not fit, or would not fit well between the fenders of a lower trailer.

I used to have a lower "between the wheels" trailer. I had about 1-1/2" clearance (total, both sides) loading the tractor. Had to have it just perfect. Current trailer is a deckover, gooseneck. More room and also more side accessibility for loading extra buckets or other attachments.

Another vote for deck over. Get a 19lb frame, tandem duals, and a gooseneck and your trailer needs are met until you get a 20k+lb piece of equipment and need a 20 ton tag or low boy.

If you have the choice, get a 30k coupler and 12 or 15k axles, derated to 26klbs unless you want to pay FET.

I second err third, well maybe forth the deckover. I just sold a skidsteer trailer that I used the heck out of until I got the LOW PROFILE deckover. I think its 4" lower? I can easily step up onto and off of it (granted I am 6'2"). If you are planning on carrying more than about 12k lbs, I also agree with the tandem dual suggestion. I also agree with the upgrading of the axles to atleast 10k HD's (larger spindles) if not the 12k axles. My current trailer is a Moritz 20+5 LP with an adjustable tail and it has handled everything I have ever put on it. The only problem is I reallycould use an extra 10' of deck length and upgraded capacity. Funny how things changed in 3 years!

I have had both and like the deckover best.
I found the perfect trailer for me, a 4' pop-up dove tail. The 5' dove tail would drag on the terraces in the hay field. :thumbdown:

For hauling square hay bales, the ramps make a back stop.


For round bales, leave the deck down and ramps hold the last one or two in place.


The receiver hitch was used mainly to pull a 16' deckover with 6 round bales on it, from the hay field.

For equipment, ramps slide in to match tread width, and support the rear.


This is the heaviest load that I have hauled on it, back in September, 2009.

I went across the scales with 12,640 on the deck, 14,200 on the axles, 3,440 on the ball, Just 3,640 pounds over the 14K GVWR.

I suppose it really depends on what you plan to haul with it. :thumbsup:

I tow with a '08 F-350 dually diesel.

Mike, Moritz website specs 5400lbs IIRC.


I tow with a International 4700 LP with a DT530E and an allison md3060 tranny. Works like a charm! Much more stable and safer than my old cummins pickup.
