Must have really upped the ante.

In the last few comparo's the DMax has dominated the PowerStroke.

I think I'd wait until PUTC tests them together.

Does GM no longer offer a deeper gear set than 3.73:1? Thats a huge disadvantage.

No style changes for the next two years on Ford either? They aren't bad looking, but the fancy 08-10 models were by far the best looking. I think the new Supers would look better in the new F150 skin.

That being said, I'll jump on my familiar soap box now. These rigs are way overpowered. OMG towing 20k over mountain passes at speed? Really? Wait till they get stuck behind my 1 ton dump, wheezing and screaming as it tops the hills at 15 mph!

The DMax has only ever been available with a 3.73. Despite that and the deeper gearing in the Torqshift the DMax trucks generally win head to head shootouts.

4.30 gears coupled with the deeper trans ratios is a huge advantage for Ford.

Great post Chris, have the power ratings changed on the Ford?

/ F350 vs competition #7
If only they could find trucks with more equal gearing for these tests. But overall, 21 seconds in a 7 mile stretch isn't that terrible considering the gearing disadvantage that the ram had. I gotta give it to ford though for offering the 4.30 gearing. I wonder what it does for fuel economy? If you are constantly towing 20k through the mountains then I guess this test matters. Not trying to knock Ford, but I would prefer the cummins legendary reliabilty and longevity.

Ford did the test. It is going to be stacked in their favor.

Of course, it is an advantage to Ford owners to have the available 4.30 gears. Also, in all recent tests and from every real owner I've met, the DMax in its current iteration is a hoss with the 3.73 gears.

Really any of the current diesel offering are plenty powerful for me (even gas for that matter). If I was consistantly towing 20k+ I would be looking at medium duty anyway.

Yep. It's a pissing match. There is nothing safe about towing that much weight with a truck so comparatively light. At least they were smart enough to use DRW trucks.

Yea, its back and forth. The Ford just barely trumps the Dodge but smoked the Dmax.

I will be in the market next year for a new diesel if my job situation is stable. Yesterday if I were to buy it would have been Dodge with a Asain but today its Ford after watching that.

Thats 5 year old data. Totally I'll relevant. Chris

Maybe so. We will have to see what the actual numbers for the Ford are. Then have them tested by someone other than Ford.

Some of that is from 2011.

Is the Super Duty still the old frame from 1999?

Ford did the test. It is going to be very slanted in their favor. I'd say the same if GM or Ram had done the test.

All good trucks. I'd drive any of the three if I had to. As obviously stated the gear ratio is a huge difference. With that said, I guess shame on GM if they don't offer a bigger gear. With that said, I would take a smaller gear and better MPG if lots of highway use. My DMAX is a daily driver / family vehicle / and a work truck that pulls a 5000 lb+ tractor on a 3000 lb trailer. Granted it's only a SRW and 2500, but I can't imagine pulling 20,000 lbs even if it's a 3500 DRW. It's stilll a lot of weight.

I would be driving a ford diesel if the DMAX want so much better on fuel consumption. Maybe my next will be a Ford. Indent drive commercially to jobs constantly pulling equipment, but if anyone does on here, do you mash on the accelerator like this? If i had an employee beating on my equipment he'd be fired. Obviously this is just an example and shouldn't be taken to heart.

I could bash all three and praise all three. If I had money I'd have all three.

Its the same hill and the same weight. I agree though. They probably figured out it perfoms better at high altitudes vs the competition.

The ford guys should have left a trail of popcorn for the GM to follow.

Hahahahaha!!!!

Has any OEM ever done a comparison test that they didn't win handily?

Ford must have added big time power, because the last time they were compared at altitude the Ford lost badly.

what all gear sets are currently in the diesel market?

at home.. in ford diesels. I have 3.73, 4.10 and 4.88

I mus tsay.. I likethe 4.10 as a good inbetween. 488 hauls good. but kills top end.

373 is fine flying.. but...

Naw, the best looking are '41, '64, and '32 in that order. And maybe the '89. :D
