You used rectangular tubing for the outriggers instead of rolled and fabricated ?

Yes, it's a rectangular tube 120x120x8 mm. Not too heavy and strong enough

This Project is awesome... I would love to build something like that for my tractor one day. Keep up the awesome work.

This started as a hobby when I was very young (now I'm 28 years old). I learned all these skills mostly by my self.
I'm not a mechanical engineer, I graduated electrical engineering, but was always far more interested in mechanics.
This is not the only machine I've constructed, there are a lot of them; this one is just the most complicated :D

Why didn't you major in mechanical engineering? Nice work by the way!

This is a pretty in depth project.. Awesome work though. Ive conjured ideas like these up in my head before but don't have the time, the ability, the tools, the space or the money to do it. Sooo on that note I give you mad props man. Looks awesome and your definitely a craftsman. Lets see this bia dig!!!

Very,
very nice work.

If Jules Verne were to have a backhoe built for Captain Nemo I am sure it would be modeled after yours. Still not sure why he would need one but if he did. . .

Then again Ripley could have used one on Nostromo but had to settle for a loader instead.

Id love to paint it , in fact send it over and I will paint it for free.

I hope you are thinking silver, grays and charcoal ( in metallic's ) with a deep clear coat.

I'll wrestle your lady friend for rights to paint it if I have to.

Looking forward for more progress reports !

:) :) nice metaphors

The color combination will be red/black and silver/gold for the details. I'll use 2K colors

Today I finished the hydraulic thumb; fresh pictures are on the way

You will paint it the color your wife/girl friend/significant other wants to paint it. :)

Seriously, you have just built the ultimate attachment that many of us have aspired to build, but not have the resources. (Mental, monetary, physical, space, machinery, time constraints, women...etc....) :)

I have never seen such quality work out of any home workshop. A lot of machine shops would envy your work. And your drawings are superlative, not to mention your fine welding also. I wish I had your skills and shop.

Thanks. It's nothing special really...I just try to do everything the best I can...but that takes time and patience.
My shop is not much...I have a 280 Amp welder, a 1.5 kW drill, small air compressor (too small :) ), 2 Bosch profi grinders (big 2600 W and small 1200 W) and a small lathe (1 meter working lenght). The rest are just hammers, wrenches etc.

Has anyone else wondered what kind of quality products and projects could be done if fellows like 3RRL,4Shorts, and BFreaky teamed up? ? ? WOW, I can just imagine that some design and construction quality standards would get really high. We have the privilege of watching the efforts of quite a few very talented and skillful "Build-it-yourself" icons on this site and it is a real pleasure to watch their efforts.:cool2: Please continue sharing your work with us.:cool2::D

Don't think it would happens as some kids take they're ball and go home if ALL the attention isn't on them...

Great work BFreaky; I have subscribed for a while now and can totally appreciate the time, effort, dedication and skill that a build like yours must take!

Team work is always welcome. More people = more knowledge & experience and that results in better product
we are all here to learn something and to share our own knowledge and that's exactly the point of forums

I'm interested to see the joysticks so widely spaced. Never seen that on a backhoe before, although I guess its common on an excavator but those ones are normally very short and stubby, and have arm rests. The control platform looks great (like the whole project) but I wonder how hard it will be to get used to. No doubt you've put a lot of thought into it.
