Thanks David! My pipe search is on. is schedule 40, 2" galvanized water pipe heavy enough?

Our high today was 102˚ so much for the cold front pushing through at noon.

I see lightning in the far East, I hope one of those showers hits here.

Don years back I used galvanized water pipe to make a green house over my wife's hot tub for the winter to keep snow off. Worked well for several years. Went on our deck so it was also easy to take down come spring.

Kyle, the sails will be mostly horizontal (only 1-1.5' slope to the west), I'm thinking 10' above the volley ball net should be enough, the pool is sunken 2' below where the poles will be positioned. 7 ft net minus 2 ft sunken plus 10ft equals 15 feet exposed pipe so I need to sink the pipe 5'. (1/4 I hope is enough) I will need 20' pipe. I have a lead on some 4"-5" pipe that I will check out this week. I would rather not have guy wires, the force will come mostly from pulling the sail tight. Each connection on a pole will be at different heights so the positioning of the poles will not be critical and the sails can overlap.

David, the bigger pipe I found is going to be less than the 2". The pipes/poles will stay year round but the sails will come down in the winter and hurricane wind days. I'll be welding the hardware on top and bottom so removal can be done without a ladder.

Your right this could be a thread by itself. Once I can be sure of the materials I just might start one - Shading the Texas Sun with Sails.

51 right now, high of 75 predicted...no precipitation forecast.

Mowed the field and about half the lawn. I'll finish that today. I think I'll take the .22 Marlin 39 and do a bit of plinking down in the field, if the weather stays as nice as yesterday.

Same day, time is now 1930...

Well, what a beautiful day! Did finish the mowing and took a 9mm Glock down on the field rather then the .22 lever action. I used an old bucket as a target...boy, am I out of practice!!!! Did OK at the end, but the first couple dozen rounds weren't good at all.
I have quite a bit of 9mm hardball, but only a few bricks of .22. Didn't want to use the .22 until I have a target set up.

69 degrees out, going up to 84 in what looks to be a nice summer day.
and I have 18 acres of fields to mow, so time to get to it. They are full of pretty Queen's Anne Lace now,
but I was given the nod to start mowing so the field of white flowers is not going to last long.

The good news is that my neck is feeling better. The bad news is that my right arm/wrist's carpal tunnel has gone into overdrive and I need to limit my steering wheel spinning for a while, so maybe only a couple hours a day mowing.
A wrist brace helps, but what I hoped would go away with my neck surgery remained, clearly having nothing to do with my neck. So yet another repair to face. Getting old sure is fun...

Had fresh picked blackberries over vanilla ice cream last night. Yum. Simple can be very good.

I miss Roy chiming in at O dark thirty. But I bet he doesn't miss it. Good luck on your offers Roy, may this be a good week for you.

70 this morning muggy foggy degrees going to a high of 90 today twenty percent chance of thunderstorms this afternoon. By the middle of the week highs only in the 70s lows in the 50s very refreshing indeed. Mowed grass but did not finish yesterday big storm came and rained me out. Did not see it coming and was mowing hill side with Z-Turn not much fun getting down and got second bath of day. Drew and Sam porous asphalt is not supposed to be affected by freezing and thawing, base of 57s and number 2s over a foot thick with permeable member underneath to filter water. Maintaince of this product asphalt must be pressure washed twice a year to keep pores open to allow water to filter thru
This and other similar type products will become more prevelant as storm water regulations become more stringent. Storm water taxes are already being implemented in cities and towns throughout the commonwealth. The prep work for this type of product is expensive the asphalt not so much

Buppies, really appreciate the info, never doubted you, just the tech is surprising.
I just think of the cold Northern air coming in on top of a driving rain, which turns to snow and then freezes hard.
Constant water in the pores. If they can solve that, boy that is some pretty interesting macadam.
our roads are horrible around here; always dodging some pothole. But when I come down your way, the roads get smooth and a joy to drive on. Even in Delaware, the roads were much smoother than in PA.

hey friend, be careful on that hill with the zero turn. I sold mine after getting tired of sliding on wet grass. Really got my heart pumping a few times, particularly when you are going down a hill backwards like the carnival kiddie ride in the big tea cups... But they sure can boogie on the flats.

Smooth and permeable and hopefully durable. Impressive. And ecologically sensitive. If it holds up, it should be a winner. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Permeable_paving
