Been looking at getting a new tractor with a loader, and a bush hog. I have been eyeballing the John Deere 4000 series, but the 5045E has grabbed my attention. My girl friends dad has a John Deere 950 its pushing 30 HP for PTO and he says when he is bush hogging it seems to bog down a little. What would you recommend for me? I am going to use it for bush hogging and to do work on my mountain land. What would be the best trailer for the 5045E? Kinda new to getting into the tractor world and wanting to learn as much as I can. Thanks for looking at my post

What size Bush hog do you want to run? Typically it's best to list the type and size implements you want to use, then choose the right tractor.

I plan to be running a 6ft bush hog, but it all really depends on what deals they have at the dealer when I go.

If 4wd isn't completely necessary a 5045d would work great for you. Anything in the 5 series is a bargain IMHO if you don't want HST and are looking for a good solid basic utility tractor...I've had my 5045d for a year and I can't say a bad thing about her yet

Loved my 5045D! Great tractor, built like a tank!

4wd is necessary is why i had thought about the 5045E

The truth of the matter is this: I'd like to have one of each! There are thinks I could do on the smaller tractor that I can't do on the cab...that being said, the a/c is niiiice!

I've had my 5103 since 2008 and love it. It's the predecessor to the 5045d. Only looking at trading up because in the next couple of years I'll be doing my own hay.

I have a 4000 series which makes trailering possible for me. With loader and bush hog I'm just over 5,000 lbs which is my towing capacity (7K including trailer). A bigger tractor would limit my options greatly. I'm very happy with the tractor's ability.

I have 160 hours on my 5045E and am very satisfied. Rear tires loaded with "RimGuard" and spaced out wide it works great on hilly terrain. It runs the six foot cutter well. If you were going to do haying with round balers you might want to move up to the 5065E to have enough on the PTO.
Mine at 7000 lbs with loaded tires and loader on is not something you want to trailor very often.

Dang...those tires are WAY out there. Is that spacer a Deere part or something you sourced elsewhere?

I have an 18' Trailer and my CUT barely fits -- guessing you'll need a three axle trailer.

Those came from JD and were dealer installed before delivery.

Since trailering came up I use a 25ft drop tail GN. This is a tandem axle 14k trailer. Anything larger and I would have to upgrade my truck.

I think whether 4wd is necessary or not depends on your terrain. For me to fully use my tractor I need 4wd, my old 961 doesn't have a loader on it and there are some things i just can't safely do with it because of lack of traction. Seriously consider your uses and terrain and then make the decision on 4wd.

The choice of trailers is a hot topic around here, do a search in the trailer forum and you will get lots of reading.
