Do most older tractors leak?

saying a tractor should not have a leak is like saying the economy should not be bad right now.. people shouldn't murder and steal, and interest should be higger that .02%.

should and 'are' are on different sides of a fence.

it's common for a tractor to leak.. it's expected for an older one to leak.

when I see an old tractor without a leak.. I check the oil before starting to make sure it isn't empty!

I am saying it should not have a leak (puddle of oil underneath) but most tractors if they have been ran any will have a seepage (a residue of oil on the block).

BTW my 8N did not leak and the economy should not be bad.

It's normal to have a few small leaks on old tractors. I try to fix all my leaks though as I find them. Under all our equipment the floor is dry including the older equipment I use to have. Like i said I fix the leaks as I find them if they are easy fixes. Most of the times it's a simple hose clamp that needs tightned or so on.

it's like when hyd line blows and coats everything in a 15' radius with hydro oil.. I don't get bent out of shape.. that's just rust proofing..

Like Rusty Jones? If a Hydro leak is lubing the hardware should I pour a pint of PB blaster in the oil?

I have a leak on my tractor that loses a bit less than a tablespoon a day, just leave a small dish under it. Just much easier add a bit every few months than to pull tire, axle and trumpet to replace a gasket. Keeps me honest and checking the hydro oil every week or so.

You guys beat me to it. Doesn't leak enough to bother. Less than 1/2 quart a month.
