I had a '05 F250 with the 6.0L. I kept it for 6.5 years before I traded it in. The 6.0 nickle and dimed me to death. The EGR valve required cleaning every 20K or so miles. Around 80K miles I noticed some fluid in the manifold when I was cleaning the EGR valve. Further investigation yielded a leaking EGR cooler. I then installed a Sinister EGR cooler delete kit. While I was in there I also replaced the STC fitting and put a new oil cooler in. I am able to do all the labor myself, otherwise it would have cost me a fortune to have someone do this for me.

I traded the '05 in for a '11 F250 with the 6.7L diesel in it. I have around 40K miles on it now and so far not one problem or issue. I just do the routine maintenance and go.

funny. i owned a 6 cyl ford minivan .. was a 90 model. traded it in, running FINE in 2009 on a kia car for the wife. engine never had a days work on it. over the years it had 1 ecu, a igniton switch and an ac repair.. other than that.. just oil changes, tune up items and tires. was the best truck on gas I have ever driven.

as for keeping hte gm? I'll send you my mailing address so you can send me a certified check so i can get rid of that cursed yukon and replace it with something else. I'm looking forward to getting that check.

you act like it's free to dump a junk vehicle and repalce with another one that runs better? Well.. it isn't last I checked. Dealers actually make you PAY for something when they let you drive it off. Now.. if a dealer wants to trade me straight up on that 99 yukon with something similar but with less gm induced issues.. I'd sure have to look that deal over ;)

Sorry you took it personally. I just thought it was funny in an ironic sort of way that you'd keep such an old problem vehicle. I try to get rid of them to lower the stress level in my life which is stressfull enough with over 1,000 acres of hay under conntract and another business, kids, etc.
To a newbie, this place feels like a powder keg ready to explode !!!

that's why i don't run out and buy something as soon as it hits the market.

wait and see what the issues are before buying. There's always a selection of used vehicles to buy as someone is always there to buy the first one on the lot, and then sell a year later when something else new hits.

let them eat the big depreciation hit.

In my case, I didn't buy it new. I bought mine used last year and avoided the depreciation hit.
I meant in a generic form that someone goes out and purchases a new 55K Ford diesel truck and has lots of problems and they're stuck with it because everyone knows it;'s a problem truck......
I did get suckered by Ford and I should have known better. Should have researched a little more. My thought at the time was that after the Ford 6L biggest most expensive recall in history nightmare, they would be much better with the 6.4L. I was in a hurry. have 4 trucks, needed another quick and this fit the needs.
Man I was wrong. This Ford (Navistar) diesel is real, expensive trouble.
I guess I'm scorned by Ford they way you are with your Yukon.
BTW: It might be a Navistar diesel, but it's got "FORD" all over it. They put it in the engine compartment, so it's their problem.

once it's bought and paid for.. , issues or not.. it still has value.. and i'm simly not ready to go outside and burn a pile of cash just to get rid of anoying issues.

if I was rich.. the POS would have been burnt. not sold, long ago....

powder keg? eh? not really.. the place ebbs adn flows.. there are simply a few issues that polarize up real well.

make/model, no matter where you are at, ALWAYS draws a crowd.

and no.. I din't take it personally. Just tired of the comments of just waving your hand to do away with a problem that you hav emoney invested in. sometimes you just have to live with the problems.

as long as the major components on that yukon stay intact.. I'll keep pouring oil into the engine and putting tires on it. first failer comes up that approaches 1/4 of it's book value.. and it better start sweating!

Currently driving 2011 F250 4X4 crewcab 6.7 diesel(Scorpion) bout 34,000 plus miles. Same here no problems to report so far,just routine maintenance. Lately getting just under 20 mpg on paper in city /Hwy a little over 22. Not babying it either. Yes of course uses DEF which should be factored in/on cost to run mpg. Truck runs like someone else said STRONG. . One thing I like about the Dodges I think they still offer 6 speed manual option.

Here's my Cummings (8.3L/504 cu in variety) Runs like a bull. Bought it without consulting Chris or tractor by net.
Funny how IH diesels are so "amazing", but when Case bought out IH, they went with "Cummings" diesels, not IH (Navistar) diesels:

according to KBB 5 k. surprised the heckout of me. that's with milage, listed options, and fair condition.

I guess I believe it.

there are 2 car lots with a 99 and an 01 for sale locally.. same color even.. and they have them from 3999 to 4999.. so I guess that's close. ( not that I'd be buying one of em! ;) )

I had no idea they would hold value like that.

in stark contrast.. my 99 f350 powerstroke is worth 10.2k, also using fair. ;)

we did.. or most of us did I guess.

most of us aren't tacky enough to pick on someone about spelling errors. Some are though. Some are offended by it.

I type on a small mobile device ( a couple actually.. pad, smartphone, tablet pc.. etc.. ) and I make a ton of typo's and small grammer errors. it doesn't help with the small screen or keyboard.. and sometimes I bump the touchpad and drag stuff.. etc.

I'm REAL empathetic with others that post from these devices.. or even posting in general. Not everyone types good. some of us may not see well.. or have BIG fingers that hit more keys at a time than they should... Making 100% neat and clean and perfect posts are very difficult or time consuming on mobile devices.

So you couldn't sell it for close to KBB after edjumicating the potential sucker....'er I mean buyer....... of all it's past problems? I could see if it had problems now, but most people will buy something that had past problems as long as they were fixed.

right now.. it's oil usage is it's major issue. it likes a quart or 2 between changes..

otherwise i keep up on ALL maint and repairs.

4wd sometimes gets flaky.. etc.

Hmmmm, you oughta be able to sell that for close to kbb. Most buyers would accept 2 qts between changes on a 14 yr old truck. I had a 7.3L that used that much between changes when it was 3 yrs old. Sounds like it's worth 5K easy unless it's all dinged up or rusted.

no rust.. might have a minor ding.. nuttin major..looks above average for that age.. but I'd sell it as 'fair' if I sold it. etc.

Well....I ain't gonna tell you what you should do, you're old enough to know, but a 14yr old Yukon that uses 2 qts between changes is a lot better than most vehicles I see. 4WD flaky and new tires. Sounds like an easy 5 grand.

i don't think it's all that good...

My 98 dodge I sold used -0- oil between changes and it's 4wd was flawless. had more miles on it. and is older..

my 99 powerstroke doesn't get out of the hash mark on the dipstick between chan ges.. has just as many miles as the yukon and is older a bit.

lets face it.. the yuk is lemony... ;)

ad it wasn't abused.. I am tight on maintenance and repairs.

I have to agree with you. I have owned 2 trucks with the 5.3 but neither use oil. I do know of one owned by a coworker that used 2 qts between changes. My 97 F150 4x4 uses none. It is strange, wonder where it goes. The coworkers truck never smoked, leaked or smelled like burning oil.

I have to agree with you. I have owned 2 trucks with the 5.3 but neither use oil. I do know of one owned by a coworker that used 2 qts between changes. My 97 F150 4x4 uses none. It is strange, wonder where it goes. The coworkers truck never smoked, leaked or smelled like burning oil.

I know quite a few guys with 5.3L GM trucks and its either hit or miss. I would say a little less than 1/2 report high oil usage. I had 2 Saturns, both with the 1.9L 4 cylinder that they put in so many vehicles. Both used oil. One used 1.5 qts between changes and the other used a QT every 600 miles. The dealer said that was within GM specs. I have also owned a Honda, a Toyota, a dozen Fords, a BMW, a Nissan, a Dodge, and a few others and not a single one used a drop. I currently have a boat with a 6.2L GM and it uses a QT every 50 hours and my old 7.4L and 8.1L GM based boat motors also used some oil.
