As far as I know, this thread is still titled "Kudos to Diamondpilot" and many of the posts state positive things about Chris. I don't quite understand what "Hay Dude" gets out of being critical of a member that has contributed so much to TBN.

Contributed so much what? Pro Ford talk?
Critical? Aren't you being critical of me? Or is this hippocritical?

So this guy Chris gets a thread dedicated to him and about 1/2 way through it, I did see that someone else posted some not-so-perfect feedback, too. I think I have the right to express my opinion the same way he did. I notice his reply was unedited.
Just because I don't like who or what you like doesn't make me any better/worse than you. Even if I don't use perfect spelling.

Soundguy, thanks for your input. I have respect for you. We do many of the same things for a living. I get tired of having to defend or justify my intelligence based on mispelling a few words on these websites.
I've met a lot of people in my years. Logged millions of miles as a CDL trucker and farmer. I've owned at least 20 CDL sized trucks and dozens of smaller diesel trucks. I do feel I can contribute just as much as anyone, but going back to the person being lauded, I find they get overbearing to the point where you're reluctant to post anything contrary to what they say for fear you'll be attacked like I was for disagreeing that Ford vehicles can be very problematic (like mine) or more pathetically, mispelling a word.

I bet someone will start a thread titled "kudos to Hay Dude" when you reach the 11,000 post milestone but based on the rate for your two months as a member, it will take 68.5 years to accomplish. Good luck!

I can't speak for others, but will say that in my searches for trailer info and diesel truck info, chris has deffinately helped me out.

Sure he's plenty pro ford 9 so am I ),.. and at times.. anti GM ( so am I ).

as I said in another post.. most of us, at one time or another.. have bought something from some maker that is just shy of the legal definition of a lemon.. and there's no water, sugar and ice around to make up lemonade.

sadly.. it happens.. and that's why we get set against ( or for ) a specific maker. I've simply been burned by GM to many times to ever think positive about them.

Dodge and ford have been good to me.

I know ford has burned some on the 6.0,. with the cost of these machines.. if you get a diesel, ( any brand ).. and it develops a major issue that is not warranty covered.. it's going to be painfull and expensive. no doubt about it.

I've really got not much problem with someone relating an experience or venting time to time.. or even adding a story to a sig line stating their bad misfortune.

The spelling issue. A seperate one from diamond pilot or the ford / gm / whoever issue... that one torques me.

I usually find, in a discussion r argument.. those that resort to picking spelling nd grammar apart, are doing so because they can't compete fairly in the rest of the discussion... IMHO.. it's ALMOST an ad hominem or at least a red herring. a deflection.. trying to discredit an opponent not based onthe merrit of his point.. but due to a personal or technical flaw that does not otherwise change the nature of the point. politicians come to mind with that respect. If you can't discredit your opponents poont.. just sling some mud..

Off the soapbox now.. someone else's turn :)

Dp has helped me alot.. I can't indicate otherwise. just sayin.

next.

( I almost shudder posting a long one like this.. the text has long since scrolled off my screen.. probably full of typo's.. :) and I'm sure it will P/O some english major to no end... ;) )

Yeah,,,, 11,000,,,, that's a lot of posts. I couldn't ever type that fast, nor have the time to sit around and do it. I'd have to be unemployed to accomplish a feat like that.
Diamonpilot aside-I'm sure he means well and tries to help, it's sad that we rate someone or something on quantity over quality.
As revered as he is on this website, I'd be foolish to question or insult him for fear of losing my posting privelages.

.

Seriously? do you find DP's posts to lack quality of advice?

Everyone has some fluff posts.. nice pics, how ya doin,, what's fer dinner.. etc.. but when it comes down to real talk and specifics ... at least to me, he seems pretty qualified or experienced anyway.

You spelled definately wrong ;) You used 2 "f''s. lol
Yep...I understand he's helped other members. Looks like at least 25 others have come to support his kudos thread.
You got burned by GM. I'm in the process of being burned by Ford. All brands of cars/trucks burn someone.
However, I still support my previous comments about Chris. To be fair, it goes on at other websites, too. There's always a member who is always logged on to a certain forum and kind of has the "bully pulpit" there (best analogy I have because of the presidential race). If anyone states something other to what he/she claims (I don't know if Chris is a man or woman, sorry) then they get discredited based on their low number of posts, or in this case, because they spelled a word wrong.
I have met a lot of people who can't spell very well that have more mechanical, truck, tractor knowledge than almost any member here.

Well said Soundguy. I have read your posts for years and respect your comments, logic, the way you handle yourself.

No, it's more a bias towards a certain brand over another. I fell bad for the rest of the dudes & dudettes on the website that have to see their non-Ford rigs insulted.

I can tell you with 100% confidence I have logged more commercial truck hauling miles in 1-2 years than Chris ever has. My trailers, tractors, trucks are larger. I'm a farmer and ship hay all over the country in several trucks with apportioned tags. I also construct barns. That is not an insult to Chris, just a fact and I don't mean to belittle or denigrate Chris. I totally agree with him (i'm going to assume he's a he) on the "Obama Motors", but disagree that GM builds crap trucks or BMW builds crap cars. I don't and won't behave in an over bearing manner that probably keeps other points of view from being expressed here. It deprives others of learning from other "experts" because many, like myself, want to avoid conflict.
I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to step in and offer advice to other members here only to see others that tried to do that get "shouted down" by some of the more popular members here.
Then that same guy ends up buying a problematic truck, trailer, doing a proceedure incorrectly and much to my shagrin, I read about it later.
As I said Soundguy, I like you and 99% of the members here, but it's a few overbearing ones that I believe keep other valuable perspectives away.

well, everyone's entitled to an opinion.

I've been accused more than once of being a bit abrasive. Trying to work on that :)

each of us are going to have different likes and dislikes. many of those come out in conversation. I guess the trick is to sift thru the opinion to get to the facts and just go with it.

On the other hand.. sometimes you just find someone you can't work around, and conflict avoidance , to some degree comes into play.

Some things I fell like arguing baout.. some things I don't care to waste time to argue about. Time to time i do find a few that.. for whatever reason.. mine or his.. we just AREn'T gonna get along or play nice. In the old days.. I'd argue too much. now.. i try to save time and blood pressure for both of us..and sugest they stick me on ignore, and then i do the same. that way we don't see each other's psot.. and everyone is happier. :)

I believe most would feel the quality is there as well. You are still a newbie to this site and haven't learned that many on this site have developed friendships. Heck, you said you don't know if Chris is a man or woman yet you have formed such a strong opinion.

This website has matured into more than just a blanket forum like many in which people pop in an out monthly or only as needs arise. I have more personal life knowledge of certain members than I do of many family members from years of reading post . Many members even form get togethers and I was even offered room and board if my family ever needed a place to stay in California.

I feel, and some others may as well, that it is not appropriate to enter a thread that the OP intended as an act of appreciation and create conflict. Especially someone who doesn't even know the gender of the said person or the camaraderie that exists within this site.

Agree 100% with that statement about entering a thread, with the addition of saying it was WRONG to bash DP when OP obviously wanted to note the contributions Chris has made to the TBN community. Yes, I am one of those members who creates a lot of chit-chat threads, but I also feel I have helped numerous members here and have sincerely TRIED to become one of those members who is a reliable source of information.

With that said, I do apologize to Hay Dude for jumping on him because if I am going to be critical of him, that obviously puts me in the same position he was when he was critical of DP. By PM I will also tell him I am sorry.

NO worries! I apologize for you being petty or critical of my spelling!
I think some explanation of my disagreeing with the Kudos to diamondpilot is in order here:

I read the thread last week. I noticed that one of the contributors to the thread earlier in post #14 said he wished that diamondpilot would be "less caustic........." Not my words, someone else's words!!

To an ousider like me, it meant that along with the 20 or so members that think he's wonderful, but along with the contributions you mentioned he makes here, there's a few that would like to see the anti other-than-Ford rhetoric from him go away. I also just noticed a bash on BMW! I own a BMW.
I notice he was driving a Ford like me and always said they were the greatest. Then came a Nissan, it was the greatest. His trailer is the greatest brand. Tractor is greatest, too. What about people who read this and don't own the same brands he brags on? Don't some of them have the right to feel put-off or angry?
Now, no disrespect to the guy. I'm sure he's helped many members out with advice, but he's also turned more than a few away with the "caustic" rhetoric . Not my words.....those are the words in post #14 of this thread!

I never bashed my BMW, just said it was a maintenance hog and would not recommend one to my worst enemy when out of warranty. Its never been anything major but sure has a knack for finding the service dept. My 08 Nissan and 06 Ford have needed about 1/10 the stuff this BMW has needed. I love the car and its performance. Nothing like blowing the doors off a so called Muscle Car with a bone stock 335I but I will not keep it past its warranty. It would bleed me dry.

Sounds like the Corvettes my brother has owned since the late 80's, he has never owned a new one and the used ones he has owned, QUOTE:

"Yes, I love owning a Corvette, but the d*** things cost you a fortune to keep running...."

I know all about that also. My uncle has a 1981 and a 2004. My father has a 1989 and a 2006. They all find there way on my trailer at least once a year or so. My uncle is Corvette though and trough and my dad just loves that 89 and would not get rid of it for the world. I think I have him talked into dumping the 06 for a new Shelby or Challenger. I keep telling him he deserves it. He just retired at 67 and its my inheritance he is spending anyways.

Our BMW has been a fantastic car. Best part is rolling up next to a punk in a Mustang or camaro and waxing them in a stoplight to stoplight. :) Then picking up the kids from practice and surrounding them in safety and luxury. :)

Really sad to hear BMW's, Corvettes and all GM and Dodge trucks bashed and called junk here.
BMW's are a true car-enthusiast's car.

Aside from some gm bashing.. I just havn't seen the dodge, and bmw's bashed. and nothing specifically corvette either? one- of odd comments.. but no tirades. ( gm.. sure.. tirades.. not much different than the anti ford ones. )

I agree with you that its fun to drive. So are tge Corvettes. Its just that they always seem to be broken. If my BMW was as trouble free as my Nissan or Ford I would be in hog heaven.

Chris, might be off topic here and I am NOT BASHING YOU, but when you admit what fun it is blowing the doors off a muscle car....don't you think you are a trifle advanced in years for that kind of behavior? However, I am sure you are doing that on a closed course where it is perfectly legal to drive that way.
